I've written a new tutorial "Blending, Smudging and Painting with the Blenders" and it is available on the Corel Painter site, under the Learning, Tutorials and Tips tab.

 

Whether you are a fine artist, commercial illustrator, or photographer working in Painter, you will benefit from using the Blenders brush category. The Blenders allow you to move and mix existing color pixels on your image. With the Blenders you can simulate blending paint with a watery or oily brush, and you can blend grainy chalk or pastel strokes using a blending stump in Painter, and much more!

In this tutorial I'll demonstrate blenders that produce watery blending effects, oily looks and grainy strokes. Some Blenders do not apply new color, and just affect existing pixels, while others add a little bit of color as they blend.

Part 1: Oil Painting and a custom brush. After an overview of the Painter 12 interface, I take an oil painting step by step, and paint on stages.
After an overview of the painting, I dissect one of the brushes, explaining the Brush Control panels that are important for the brush.
Part 2: Adding texture to photos. Add "film" grain to a photo, including experimenting with composite methods with textured layers
Explain the special effects dialog boxes used, and show variations of the effects by using the composite methods.
To finish, walk through a variety of paintings and explain my creative process.

In 2011 we celebrated the twentieth anniversary of Painter with the release of Painter 12. Viva Painter!

We are thankful to the Painter team for their amazing work on Painter 12. Three of my favorite features in Painter 12 are the Real Watercolor media and brushes, the redesigned media libraries and the easier to use custom palettes.

In 2011 I completed the tenth edition of The Painter Wow! Book, which is loving detailed for Painter 12. It is always a joy to work on the Painter Wow! Book.
