Hi Everyone,
I wanted to give you an update on the upcoming patch for Painter 11.
As some of you may recall I said that the patch would be out before the holidays. In an effort to ensure that this patch is working as expected and not causing new issues, and not going to impede your workflow we have been doing extensive testing on it to make sure we get things right.
As it turns out through your valued feedback and posts, there was another issue with the Wacom tablets on Win 7 and 10.6 that popped up. Many of you that upgraded to the new OS’ encountered this issue and let us know about it, so in the meantime we have found a fix and are in the process of testing the fix. This new issue will cause a short delay of the release of the patch, and we are now going to launch the patch the first week of Jan.
The scheduled date for the release of the patch is Jan 6, 2010.
In an effort to be transparent with you here are some of the other items we have fixed with this patch (this is not all the fixes, just some of the biggies) :
Launch Errors
- Some Mac users have experienced that Painter will not launch, getting an "Error 18" dialog
- Some Windows users have experienced that Painter will not launch, getting a "This application has been illegally modified" dialog
Performance
- When idling, CPU usage is reduced.
- Painter is more responsive within a Windows Vista 64-bit environment
- When resizing a brush to a larger brush size, minimal memory errors should occur
Transformations
- Improved on-screen transformations when using the Transformations tool.
- Enhanced rendering when applying transformations, which produces a better preview of the final transformed content.
- Transforming layer content that is larger than, or outside, the canvas is no longer clipped to the edge of the canvas.
Copy Paste
- Copy/Paste from other applications and into Painter 11 as well as from Painter to other applications
- This includes both copying text in and out, as well as imagery, including unmergred layer content with transparency.
Auto-painting
- Smart-stroke painting system is reset when re-starting to allow multiple auto-painting attempts.
- If the smart-stroke painting system is stopped and then re-started, it starts from the beginning, instead of starting where the previous image was stopped.
- Clone color can be turned off, which allows the auto-painting to paint with its own color.
I appreciate all of your feedback and inquiries.
I am sorry for the delay but I think it will be worth the wait.
Happy Festivus ;-)
Rob
