Mac OSX.5 Quick Look Plugin for Painter RIF's now available

For all the Mac folks out there, we have created a Quick Look plugin for viewing Painter files in the finder.

Simply download the plugin from here [450kB file]. (Link updated Feb 14.08)

Install it and you should be ready to go.

To use it - navigate to a Painter '.rif' file and press the spacebar and you should see a nice preview of your Painter file. This will also allow you to see your Painter files with a nicer preview in Cover Flow mode in Finder Windows.

For more info on Quick Look visit the Quick Look page at Apple.com.

Enjoy!

Thanks! And this was announced the day after I took the plunge and upgraded to OS X 10.5!

Installed it and it works very well. Except in cover flow, the images are exteremely pixelated and blurred.

"Except in cover flow, the images are exteremely pixelated and blurred".

That's because QuickLook has two modes. A super-fast mode (e.g. in CoverFlow) and a detailed mode (e.g. when you press the space bar to view the file).

In the first mode, we have to give QuickLook an image as fast as possible. That image is the embedded Painter thumbnail, which is 120x120. In a large window, this will look pixelated.

In the second mode, we have more time and can render each layer properly (except text and shapes, for technical reasons, sorry!).

Apple may have changed the behavior of QuickLook between 10.5.0 and 10.5.2. I seem to recall that images in CoverFlow were first pixelated (the small thumbnail was blown up), and then correct (the large image was scaled down). They may have taken out the second step as it was taking too long on most pictures...

Very cool plug-in.  I couldn't find the licensing on it though.  It would be very nice if it were MIT or something like that.
