    Wendy - Corel:

In previous versions of Painter, you could not launch the application on systems with more than 8Gb of ram.  With Painter 11, there is no limit on the amount of ram on your system - you should be able to launch the application on your 16 Gb system.  However, it will only be able to use 4 Gb of ram.  So, there is still a limit on the amount Painter can USE, but not no limit on the amount to launch the application.

Sorry for the confusion, I hope this helps...

    Wendy

    Hi Wendy,

Please talk with Philippe at Corel as he says Painter 11 can only use 2GB of RAM.

Thanks in advance for helping to clear this up once and for all.

We need to know the actual about of RAM Painter 11 can use in addtion to how much RAM we can have and still have Painter 11 open and run properly.

You can have unlimited amounts of ram on your system and Painter 11 will run.  However, as Philip explained, it can only use 2 Gb of ram.

Okey dokey, Wendy! Thanks for clearing that up.

To avoid unnecessary confusion, I've deleted my last post.

Corel Painter IX.5 runs fine on Windows 7 64bit

    Hey fellow Painter Lovers!

I just wanted to inform you all of the following:

I have finally assembled my new pc.

I was under quite some pressure from the Mss to keep the budget as low as possible, so I had to find the ultimate compromis between performance and budget, while keeping upgrading in the future as easy as possible. I believe I have found this config to be quite satisfying:

    Antec Sonata Elite 86.06 €
    Samsung Super-WriteMaster SH-S223Q 22.29 €
    Samsung Spinpoint F1 DT HD642JJ, 640GB 60.13 €
    Shipping 14.99 €
    Cooler Master Real Power M620 77.25 €
    Club3D HD 4650 512MB GDDR2 Passive Heatpipe 62.45 €
    Shipping 12.95 €
    AMD Phenom II X3 720 BE 119.95 €
    Moederbord: Asus M3A78-T E 115.58 €
    2 x Kingston ValueRAM - Memory- 4 GB ( 2 x 2 GB )DDR3 - 1333 MHz / PC3-10600 - CL9 - 1.5 V (=8GB in total) 114.62 €
    Arctic Silver 5 cooling paste 4.03 €
    Shipping 14.99 €
    Windows 7 64bit  RC = free
    Total 705.29 €

I wanted to test both my Painter IX.5 (I ran on WinXP 32bit) and Painter 11 in a 64bit environment, so for me Win 7 RC came out at the perfect moment.

First step was to install Painter IX.5 and getting it running.
This took me a while! After installing it would give me a message like "You don't have the rights to run this software. Please activate the program or run it as an administrator. Painter would not give me the Activation Window, so I couldn't activate it, even though I was an admin.

After a searching a long time on the internet and trying stuff out in Windows 7, I found the solution. Since Painter is a native 32bit application, I needed to tell Windows 7 64bit this. Windows 7 has this built in monitor that keeps track of older software being installed, so I got an alert that Painter IX.5 is a 32bit application and was asked if I wanted Win7 to simulate the environment in which it was running fine.
So then I had to ask some questions like which OS I used Painter on etc and after reboot, IT WORKED! And it seems a hell of a lot faster than it was on my P4 2800 too (from what I've seen sofar)! I feel like a child getting a balloon :)

So, I'm not sure if all you Vista 64bit users have this WinXP compatibility mode, but if you have, try running Painter like that, it might get rid of a lot of bugs, inert reaction, cpu overload etc.

I do have one question though.
Do you think it would be ok to install Painter 11 alongside my Painter IX.5 installation on Win 7 RC 64bit? I wouldn't want to screw up my Painter IX.5, which runs fine (although some bugs might show up once I use it for a bit longer).

Anyway, just wanted to post this here so everyone knows that upgrading a system to a config that has no problems running Painter IX.5 in a 64bit environment is actually possible (with some patience and determination).
Hope y'all have a nice day!

     Hi Dale,
    Glad to hear this.
I posted a more elaborate description (I did have some problems with Win7) on my blog: www.johanderycke.com
