Problems with brush tool in Painter 8

    Hey All,

I know this is a Painter X forum, but I don't see a Painter 8 thread, so I hope you won't mind too much!

I've been using Painter for a while now and am just now having this problem that's driving me crazy: All of a sudden, having made no changes (consciously) to my set up, the brush will not make any marks on any level above the (locked) canvas. This is a file I've already painted in - about 6 levels without any problems.

I'm using a wacom tablet but all other tools and functions work fine.

I've got the layer set to 'normal'.

I hope someone else has had this problem, or can tell me what's going on! Also hoping it's something small that I've missed and not a cry to reinstall.

    an update:

have just discovered that the layer appears to be working like a mask: I can add to it with the brush tool, but only in areas previously painted.

    the mystery deepens..

I don't know Painter 8 but it sounds like you have transparency locked. In Painter X there is a check box labelled "Preserve Transparency" at the top of the Layers palette and when selected it won't allow painting on transparent areas. Maybe something similar in 8?

    Hi rosegrrl,

Your thread has been moved to the appropriate forum for older Painter versions, pre-Painter X: Painter Past - Earlier Versions.
