    print preview

I have Painter 9 & 10 installed in Win xp with no problem until installing Painter 11--Now I can't open Print Preview at all. It goes directly to Print.I have dtermined that it is NOT a printer problem. Can you please help. This is a very necessary function for me.

    Re: print preview

    Hi max,

I, too, use Painter IX.5, Painter X.1, and Painter 11 with Hot Fix 1 installed, and also have Painter 6.1, Painter 7.1, and Painter 8.1 installed on the same computer. My OS version is WinXP Home SP2.

In the years I've used these Painter versions, when printing from Painter, I've never had Print Preview available with either of my printers, an old HP Laserjet 4 and an Epson Stylus Photo 1280.

I can set up the Page Layout (orientation and margins, etc.) and get a good Print Preview when printing from other software installed on my computer:

    • Photoshop 7
    • Illustrator 9 (Print Preview via the Navigator)
    • Firefox
    • WordPerfect
    • IrfanView (free software)

... and maybe others I haven't thought of at the moment. All of the above listed software, except Firefox, needs to be updated to more current versions and I'd expect these capabilities would, if anything, be improved in current versions.

I'm not sure why  you had Print Preview available in earlier Painter versions, especially on the same platform and OS version as mine, especially if it's not a printer-related function.

My own tests were all done using the HP LaserJet 4P and as you can see, Print Preview was available when printing from some software and not from other software (specifically, any of my 7 currently installed Painter versions).

    Re: print preview

     Well Jinny,

so far everone seems to think I'm nuts---but Honestly I have been using my Print Preview for years. I have 2 Canon printers & they both

have done a wonderful job, until I installed Painter 11.  It allows me to correct things that I wouldn't ordnarily detect on my working page &

I am lost without it. And no one seems to know how to put it back. I have spoken at length to  Canon Support  & they   know about it, but it's

a problem in the Corel App.         thanx for trying to help--

In Painter 10 and 11, if you press 'Ctrl 7', it brings up the Info Pallette Window. According to the Help file, under the topic page setup:

    " To preview an image

    1

On the Info palette, click the palette menu arrow.
    2

    Choose one of the following:
To view the image as it appears on your canvas with no relation to the printing paper, choose Canvas Preview.
To view the image as it will appear on the currently selected printing paper, choose Page Layout Preview.

Was that what you were looking for?
    Cheers
    Doug

    Re: print preview

Thanx Doug,--but that's not it. What I had was a separate full size page that opened in its own window so I could see it all.

                               I'll keep looking,

I didn't think it was-that preview window is so small as to be almost useless!

    Re: print preview

It will have been your printer s/w. When printing on my last printer it was configured so that every time I printed it would go to a full-screen Print Preview page first, regardless of what app I was in. Now it could be that Painter is somehow preventing that page from being displayed, whereas on previous versions it did not, but Painter itself never had that functionality.

I can well understand that you're probably pulling your hair out over this.  However, I am almost 100% certain that when you view a print Preview, you are doing so via the printer software, not the application you launched the print function from.

I do not use a PC, but I would probably re-boot your computer and re-launch your software and see how that goes.  You probably have already done this by now.  I would also take a look at the printer app Pref's.

    Best of luck.

    Re: print preview

To both Phillip & Simon--thanx I really appreciate your trying to help--yes, I have done all of the suggested fixes & I know that the preview is in the printer soft ware--I just can't find a way for Painter to accept it again. It was installing 11 that shut it off & I can't get it back. It worked like a charm for 3 years or more.

one more thought ... uninstall Painter 11.   I do not use P11, but if you can get by without it, then go back to PX.

    Just a thought.

    Re: print preview

When I turn on print preview in my print driver Painter 11 doesn't stop it showing - it works perfectly.  Have you tried updating or reinstalling your print driver - if you haven't updated it in three years it might be something to try?

Yes--I have done all of those things & many more. Always keep drivers up to date. I am very frustrated--in case you couldn't tell. Something somewhere has been disabled, but I can't find it.

                                                                          Thanx, Max

    Hi Max:

Would you be able to post the model of the Canon printer you're using?  I can try and install the driver here and see if the issue can be duplicated.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

    Hi Max:

    Just a couple more questions...

After you installed Painter 11, did the print preview stop working for you in Painter IX and X too?  Or is it only happening in Painter 11?  When should the print preview window open?  Do you have to invoke it from the driver?  Do you have any printer status software installed with the driver?

    Thanks,

    Wendy
