An Easier Way to Prepare HTML Code for Your Bio

NOTE: As you may have noticed, I've posted the first of two tutorials in the Painter Factory Help forum demonstrating how to use HTML tags when posting a Bio. It's linked here HTML Code Tags to Use When Writing Your Bio, but don't use it unless you just love coding or love to suffer. When I prepared HTML code for my Bio using a web page editor, then copied and pasted the code into the Bio editing window and posted it, a lot of the code was visible in the text and I had to go back and pick through it to clear out the code the Bio couldn't digest.

An unnecessary waste of time and patience!

I kept thinking about it hoping to find a better way, and did.

The second method provided below is far easier, very straightforward, and allows us to format the text however we want using familiar icons and font/font size lists:

    The Easier Way:

It occurred to me we might be able to accomplish the task most quickly and efficiently by doing the following:

    1. In the Painter Discussions forum, type and format a new message.
    2. Click the Edit HTML Source icon (top row, last icon on the right above the message editing window) to view the message in HTML format.
    3. Highlight and copy the HTML code.
    4. Paste the copied HTML code into a text editor for safekeeping.
    5. Don't post the message in Painter Discussions, just exit out of the message editing window.
    6. Go to your Profile and, under Options, click Edit My Profile.
    7. Under Bio, paste the copied HTML code into the Bio editing window.

As a test, I tried that, using all of the formatting options provided in the Painter Discussions editing window. Then I pasted the results below my existing Bio and HTML code demonstration and it worked except that the text was all bold. I'm not sure if that might have been caused by previous coding in my Bio but suspect that might be the case.

If you decide to try this method, be sure that your formatting is just as you want it before copying and pasting from the Painter Discussions message editing window's HTML source to your Bio editing window.

Good luck, and please let us know how it goes.

    Thanks!

    Hi Pauline,

It's good to see you, and I'm happy to hear it worked for you.

Actually, if you use the first method I posted, it's definitely not the easiest. That's why I posted the easier method in my first message above.

If you follow the steps in my first post above you don't have to do any coding.

It's all done automatically when you type and format the message in the Painter Discussions message editing window.

    Hi Jin,

Yes, I did do your easier method thank you!  My reason for putting the code in this thread was for those, who do know some basic HTML as well, and can grab it from here knowing how to do it immediately for themselves.  If I'm confusing your instructions, I apologise.  I should've left well enough alone, you're very capable without a doubt.

     Have a good day.

     Cheers

    Pauline,

The Painter Discussions message editing window automatically starts with the following code:

    <p>&nbsp;</p>

I first tried using HTML code that I did in a web editing software. Unfortunately, that was a mess because the Bio won't handle a lot of the code tags. Then I had to go through it with a fine tooth comb removing tags that wouldn't work.

Finally, it dawned on me the Painter Discussions message editing window would work.. and it did, with no problems at all. I checked with David Gell and he's using a similar method (same formatting tools), the Blog editing window.

In addition, using the Painter Discussions message editing window, we have complete freedom to format your messages any way we like and it's all compatible with the Bio.

That's why I made a point of posting the easier method. Even people who know basic HTML can run into problems doing their own coding.

While I appreciate your intentions, I think your post in this thread may confuse people since a lot of them may not know enough about coding/formatting messages here to stay out of trouble or to figure their way out of trouble.

    Thanks for understanding, Pauline.

I'll see if I can delete it but please don't worry about posting here. If the thread's open, anyone can post.
