    Doing something wrong?

Hi, I'm new boy to Painter (X), and I'm hoping I could get a bit of advice....

I'm pretty handy in PS, so the general palettes etc in Painter I can figure out - what I'm not getting, and this might be a real dumb question, is...I want to produce an A3 (ish) image at 300 dpi - setting the page size is fine  - but I want to get is a broad, loose, wash of colour on the background, but when I use, say, a large watercolour brush to try and do this - it's really, really slow.

I'm running OSX 10.5.7 with a 2x2.8Ghz Quad Core Intel processor with 6Gb of memeory....is this something to be expected due to the size, or am I doing something wrong and there's a much better way to achieve this?

Any pointers would be massively appreciated.

    Thanks

    Hi jonny_rocketts,

    Welcome to The PainterFactory!

First, since this thread isn't a General Discussion About Art and Artists, but instead related to general understanding and use of Painter X. I'm going to move your thread to the Corel Painter X - Last Version forum.

Then members can offer suggestions to help you accomplish your goal.

This is something to do with size.  Large watercolour brushes are going to lag due to memory usage.  Having a lot of RAM probably wont help overly as Painter can only access 2gb of the RAM you have installed anyway.

If you read John Derry's explanation HERE re Render-based Dabs (which are what watercolour brushes are) you will find a better explanation and also a few things to try to increase speed.  Note that in my experience they will always be much slower than other brushes at a larger brush size.
