How to Attach Images to Display in Your Messages

If you'd like to "attach and image" (upload an image to the PainterFactory server, then display it in your message), use one of the two methods described below.

    FIRST METHOD

If you have a Blog or Gallery here at The PainterFactory and a folder into which you can upload your images you can use the first method or, if you prefer, you can use the second method as well.

    1. Begin a new message.

    2. When you're ready to add the image, click the Content Selector icon at the right end of the bottom row of icons. The Select Content dialog box opens.

    3. In the lower right corner of the Select Content dialog box, click the Browse button and navigate to the file on your computer you want to upload.

    4. Highlight the file, then click the Open button.

    5. When the path to your file appears in the field to the left of the Browse button, click the Upload File button. You'll see a thumbnail of the image file in the upper right panel.

    6. With the thumbnail highlighted, click the OK button in the bottom right corner of the Select Content dialog box. Now you'll see your image displayed in the message editing window:

    SECOND METHOD

Unless you have a Blog or Gallery here at The PainterFactory and have a folder into which you can upload your images, you'll need to use this method:

    1. Type a new message.

    2. Click the Options tab above the message editing window.

    3. In the upper left corner of the Options tab, below File attachment, click the Add/Update button.

    4. In the Upload File dialog box, check the Upload File radio button.

    5. Click the Browse button and navigate to the file on your computer you want to upload, highlight the file, then click the Open button.

    6. When the path to the file appears in the field to the left of the Browse button, click the Save button in the lower right corner of the Upload File dialog box.

    7. Below the Options tab, click the Post button and your image should appear at the bottom of your message, like this:

Re: How to Attach Images to Display in Your Messages

    Hallo Jinny

I have been trying to attach an image (a jpg less than 650pixels width and 60KB) to a message following your steps here but when I click on the "content selector" icon, I don't see what you describe. In the smaller window that appears, there is no "browse button", only a "cancel" (bottom right) and just left of that, an "OK". Am I missing something?

    Hi Ann,

I'm so sorry to have (apparently) misled you.

It appears the reason I can is that I have both a Blog and a Gallery and, consequently, folders into which I can upload files..

I'll see if there's another way you can do it, then post whatever I learn in this thread.

In the meantime, you can always upload your image to either your own website or to another site, then insert the URL to the image file between image tags. (See the tutorial in the PainterFactory Help forum explaining how to do that.)

    Back Again Later:

I've edited my post above to add Second Method that should work for you, providing your browser supports the options I can use in Firefox. Try it and let me know how it goes.

    Good luck!

    Hi Jinny

Thanks for confirming it's not me! First, I tried your second method:

but the "options" tab opens only a small window with 2 check boxes at the top ("Do not allow emails" and "Email me replies to this post") and below those, several rows of emoticons plus an enable checkbox. No "attach" options that I can spot, so presumably I don't share your browser options.

I'll try the linking method and get back to you.

Ann, I'm having the same problem as you. When I get the time maybe I will link to a url.

I am wondering if the problem is because I use mozilla firefox for my browser . . .

I was also wondering how to set up a gallery.

     Kathy,

If I understand your post above, you're  using Mozilla Firefox. That's the browser I use, too, and the second method in my post above should work for you as it does for me.

You'll need to contact the PainterFactory administrators to ask what the rules are for Galleries:

Re: How to Attach Images to Display in Your Messages

OK, I just tried something cause it works in other forums.  I created this page (photo and poem) in google documents this morning.  Then I simply copied the page and pasted it into a google email and the whole page came in perfectly.  So I tried it here and it seems to work here as well as I can see it clearly. It must have to do with the coding in google documents.  So if you have a gmail account, you could do a page/ image in documents without having to have a gallery as you can upload the image from your desktop to documents, then cut and paste.  This is a bit of a workaround but it does work.

I use it basically when I want to do more of a format than is possible in a plain email.  Btw, I'm working Firefox on a Mac. So this is another possibility if it holds true when I hit post.

    the sun rose quietly
    before I noticed
    it had veiled
    the window in gold
    captured the screen
    with shimmering dew

    till the cardinal
    at the window's edge
    burst into song
    invisible in the light

    till the morning
    leaked wonder

The variation in font color in the title and first line appeared here.  Clueless.  It doesn't happen usually.  ?????  Gremlins

    Suchin,

I have no idea why the formatting doesn't carry over from Google to The Painter Factory except the obvious:

The formatting tools are not the same.

If you want your text a different color, use the existing editing tools for Painter Discussion forum messages to correct the colors (or any other aspect of message formatting you want to change).
