    What version are you on?

Just curious, since they provided this forum for older versions! I'm on Painter 9.5, myself. I only upgraded about a year ago, before that I was using 6.1. I still don't feel quite as confident with the controls of 9.5 as I did with 6. Too much to learn, it sometimes seems, and I'm always frying to remember how I did something or other last time. It's still the program I love, though! :D

Re: What version are you on?

I have both Painter 9.5 and 10.1.  My Macbook handles 9.5 much better so I do most all of my work in 9.5.

I too find I am often at a loss at how I did something as well.  Thanks to Jins many helpful suggestions and tutorials which I save I can generally go through the steps one more time.

Anyway Painter is the only program I use.  And I have no desire to learn another one!  Syd

I started with Painter Classic in 2000 and then went to 8 a while later. I then went to 9.5 and it can't do the real brushes like 10 but I'm mor comfortable with it. Plus I was on a Vista machine while I had my 10 trial and talk about a pain in the rear~! All it did was crash. I'm waiting for extra money before I can upgrade again. Other things just seem more important right now, like bills and driver's ed and 4 kids.......... I do plan on upgrading at some point.

Hi, I'm new here. I still have 9.5, and with a couple kids in college, I wasn't sure it was worth the money to spring for 10.0 I will upgrade at some point.

    Hi ChrisIrvine,

    Welcome to The PainterFactory!

The decision to upgrade to the latest Painter version depends on each person's needs and wishes, not to mention budget.

Painter 9.5 is a good version and includes a great deal of what you'd find in Painter X, though not everything.

Also, Painter IX.5 seems to be pretty stable which is a good thing. It's more stable in my experience than Painter IX was, before the Painter IX 9.1 and Painter IX.5 Updates were installed.

Enjoy the forums, and please show us some of your Painter work. It's always fun to see what people are doing with the program.

    Cheers!

     HI Jinny,

I use Painter X . . .just love it. The composition tools are awesome . . .divine proportion is so cool.  I use a PC and haven't had crashes like I had with 9.

I like the smart stroke brushes, too. I've been using Painter since the first version in a Paint can but I can't find the Can now. I tried to upload some image files

last week but couldn't seem to get it to work, maybe I will give it another go this week I must be doing something wrong. I am going to be showing Painter X to

our local art guild in April, can't wait to see their jaws drop haha.

Re: What version are you on?

Hi, I'm currently working with Painter 7 to do my illustrations (davecutlerstudio.com) on a Mac G4, OS 10.3. I just purchased a new G5 loaded with Leopard (10.5) which arrives in about a week. I plan on upgrading to Painter 10. However, with deadlines, I need to produce my illustrations quickly, and I'm very familiar with Painter 7 so I'd like to keep painting with that version until I learn 10. So, I'd like to know if 7 will work with Leopard. I've looked online but can't find anyone who has indicated that Painter 7 will/won't work with Leopard. Does anyone know, or have advice as to how I can find out? Thanks, Dave Cutler

I only have Painter 6.1 and that's what I use, I also like this version best because of the interface, much easier to navigate and use, the horizontal tool boxes are great to save space for the canvas.

I use X.  Is there a way to roll back the interface to a previous version?

    Re: X

You can have various versions installed  at the same time.  So going back wouldn't be a problem, just install the older version.  You may want to keep X installed for the features that aren't in the older version though.

Re: What version are you on?

I'm using Painter 8, I did install the Painter X demo and used it for one or two paintings but ran out of time before I could really get into it. I must admit that it was an incredible experience using Painter X.

I'm just relieved to find that not everyone is on Painter X. Here in South Africa it is very expensive due to exchange rates etc. Hence the fact that I have been saving in order to get myself a copy.

The problem I'm facing is that the Wacom tablet is as expensive and I really need a decent tablet too. I currently have a Genius tablet (very small) and I have found it has problems with pressure control and response.

So I now have the dilemma of deciding what to buy :-(

I have IX.5 and X and use them both.  Also have version 7 installed and hop back to it sometime.  I really loved that version.

I am using Painter IX.5 and although I'm not thrilled with it, I can load and paint with my old brushes. I much prefer Painter 7, but for some reason it doesn't work with the newer Mac Intel processors without the proper driver which I cannot find on Wacom's website. I've asked for a link to driver 6.0.0 and Wacom ignored that request.

Hello , i have Mac versions 9.0 , 9.5 and 10.1 . however i upgraded to leopard from tiger and i cannot get 10.1 to open anymore so i went back to 9.5. 9.5 still will barely open i have to try over and over but once it opens it works flawlessly as far as i can tell . i am waiting patiently for a update/fix for 10.1 as i really loved that version when it was working in tiger.
