    Painter X and Leopard - 8 core

I recently had to order a new mac pro, 8 core, and am reading posts that Painter isn't compatible with
multiple core machines. Has anyone had any luck with the new macs and Painter?  If not, does anyone
know if Corel is going to upgrade?  I find it strange that they are unreachable, which makes me wonder
    about Painter's 'future'.

I saw where someone put Tiger back on, but I don't know if that will even work with an 8 core machine.

Painter is compatible with multicore processors. But... only use one core. To be clear this is nearly the same as using an iMac. Well... even the iMac is underused because it's a dual core. But it will work.

Hi, I just got this from Customer Service at Corel:

    Reply from Corel

    Hello;

Thank you for your recent inquiry regarding use of Painter X on a Mac Pro, 8 core with Leopard.

On speaking with Technical Support agent, I have been advised that the issue lies in the amount of ram on your system. Anything above 4 -gigs of ram will cause Painter X to run oppositionally more slowly. As such, this is not really an issue involving an upgrade per se.

I apologize that I was not able to provide resolution to your inquiry.

    Regards,

    Susan Baxter

    Hi oreo:

Marlwin is correct - Painter runs on multicore systems, but only uses one core.

As for running on Leopard - if you do a search on Leopard, you should be able to find the reported issues.

    Thanks!

     Thanks Everyone,

I don't understand why or how Painter slows down with multi-core, but I'm glad
it works with 4 GHz.  Thank goodness. Painter is an awesome program.

"Anything above 4 -gigs of ram will cause Painter X to run oppositionally more slowly." Interesting... I didn't know that.

    Hi Marlwin:

I talked to our developers and they believe this statement is not true.

Me either.  I always thought more ram made an app work better.
All I care about is that it's working, and I hope they can keep up
    with Apple's continuous upgrades!  :)

I admit to having problems with the concept of 'oppositionally more slowly' though I understand the syntax. But, are you(or the techs) speaking about available system ram , process memory footprint, image size,or what?  Leopard has a max memory limit of 4gb per process, unless it is a 64bit application, which I don't think Painter is. I got a 4core version of the new mac pro so I could afford 10gb of ram, allowing multiple memory hogging applications to be open and happy. So far, albeit with limited testing, I don't see any slowing of Painter. Has anyone tried large complex creations on leopard?
