    Work in progress: Bob's Escape

This is a concept art for a story I am working on inspired by the novel 1984 by Orwell. This scene Bob just figured out being a second class citizen is not what he wants to be and finds an escape route to the sewers of the totalitarian city. I used digital watercolor, pen, oil, and a bit of glow.

    Hi orion22X,

I like the subtle color, lighting, and the very appealing figure (Bob 1) in your first painting.

In the second, (Bob 2) and his puzzled, or shocked, expression and especially the interesting way you used Artists' Oils to paint over the face and head. I did a double-take and stared a moment before realizing what you did. It's very neat.

To prime my canvas I would layer texture down with gesso until I get the desired effect. Sometimes I would scratch the primed canvas with a fork to get a scratchy texture. I experimented with Painter X in the same manner and came close with oil impasto--even though I can use that brush to paint with. Being new to Painter I'm starting to like it very much. The tutorials offered here are awesome.

Thank you for the kind comments.

    orion22X,

If you like Painter very much when so new to the program, and are not hesitant to explore ways to reproduce your traditional techniques with an open mind, you have many years of enjoyment ahead... and so do we, as we watch.

Thanks for sharing a little of your process with us. It's good for everyone.
