    Painter X.1 crashes frequently

Every few hours Painter crashes so that the cursor turns from the brush icon to the regular arrow and if I click in the Painter area, it freezes. Other programs work fine. I have not yet found a pattern with these crashes, however, it is not due to overheating. I normally use Painter on 300 ppi files of up to 20 cm x 30 cm. I do use many layers but the crashes seem to happen regardless of their number. I have reinstalled and reset Painter once already when it crashed and would not start up again, but it doesn't help with the regular crashing. I've had Painter on the computer for 2 months and it's been doing this all that time.

I am really at a loss here, if anyone has suggestions on how to proceed and try to work out where the problem is, I would be very, very grateful!

Macbook Santa rosa 2.2Ghz 4Gb ram, Windows XP SP2 (up to date) in Bootcamp, Wacom Cintiq 12 WX

    Hi Samuli,

    Welcome to The PainterFactory!

Unfortunately, I don't have a solution to offer but hope someone from the Corel Painter development team will see your post and respond.

In the meantime, here are some general suggestions that might help and are worth reading and applying in any case:

Check these two threads at the Conceptart.org Painter forum to learn how to keep Painter running smoothly and how to speed up your Painter brushes:

Keeping Painter 6 Through Painter X.1 Running Smoothly - Updated February 6, 2008, by Jinny Brown

The second link to John Derry's tutorial should help speed up your brush work:

    Best wishes!

    Hi Samuli:

Can you let me know what version of Mac OS you are running?  Also, just to clarify, are you running Painter X.1 on the Mac OS or on XP through bootcamp?

    Thanks!

    Hi Wendy,

I run Painter natively in XP via Bootcamp so the Mac OS is irrelevant, however, it is also up to date.

Do you do any work in your Mac OS environment?  If so, would you be able to install Painter on your Mac OS and see if it works better for you?  Or do you solely work in the PC environment?

Can you give any details as to what kind of Mac?  ie G5, G4, Intel, PowerPC?

Sorry, I've been following the development of the macbooks closely for a year now and I completely forgot people might not know what "Santa Rosa" is (it's the model of the motherboard - I'm becoming a geek...). So, Intel dual-core processor, late 2007 model.

I don't use Mac OS for work because my Adobe programs are on XP. Also, there are some language problems in Mac OS Painter I haven't had time to resolve but the main reason is that I use Painter in connection with Photoshop all the time.
