    about flattening an image.

Can anyone help me with this?   Do I click on drop under the layer ?

Is it essential to flatten your image?  What do yu name it when completed?

    thanks,

    Hi sandy,

I've moved this thread to a more appropriate forum, Corel Painter X, since the PainterFactory Help forum is for posting messages related to The PainterFactory, not to Corel Painter.

Now I'll try to answer your question:

    sandy ward:

Can anyone help me with this?   Do I click on drop under the layer ?

First, I'm not sure what you mean by "Do I click on drop under the layer ?". Specifically, ".... drop under the layer..." is not clear to me.

If you want to drop a Layer to the Canvas, there are three ways it can be done after the Layer is highlighted in the Layers palette:

    • Layer Command icon (left icon at the bottom left corner of the Layers palette) > Drop
    • Layers palette menu > Drop
    • Layers main menu > Drop

We can also use File > Clone to make an exact, flattened copy of the working image and keep the working image intact in case we want to continue working on it later.

Is it essential to flatten your image?

Whether it's essential to flatten the image or not, is entirely dependent on the situation and the artist's preference.

What do yu name it when completed?

    thanks,

    sandy

As with any image, it can be named however you want, using whatever file naming pattern makes sense to you.

If you can give us more detail about what you're wanting to accomplish, what kind of image you're working on, and any other information you think might be  important, maybe we can proved more help.

    sandy,

I just received your e-mail, in which you ask more questions. Please post all of your questions in this thread and we'll try to answer them.

    Thanks.

    Thanks Jinney,

So, if I clone it this wil make a copy and save my working copy with layers?

    Re: about flattening an image.

    sandy,

If you make a Clone, work on the Clone, that becomes your working image.

If the Clone (your working image) has Layers, and you save the Clone in RIFF format, it will retain the Layers and any other Painter-specific information you'll need when you want to continue working on the Clone.

If, in a following Painter session, you want to continue Clone painting using the same original image, you'll need to do the following:

    1. Open the original image.

    2. Open the Clone.

    3. In the File menu, choose Clone Source and in the flyout menu, check the file name of the original image. That reestablishes the connection between the original image and the Clone so Painter will know to take color information from the original image (the Clone Source image) when you Clone paint on the Clone.
