    Painter (mixed)

Since this is a Painter forum sponsored by Corel, I had thought that a painting not done 100% in Painter was a no-no.  I've been painting my newer work most of the time using two different programs on the same image, Painter and Studio Artist, so I didn't feel quite right posting them here.  Then I dropped in and saw these posts on using painter and photoshop together and figured it would be OK then.  Then I tried to log-in and you know the rest.

My paintings are at pbase at http://pbase.com/nmrai/riffs

Here's a small version of one of them:

This is very nice, Suchin, the colors and mood.

I noticed the file name is PINGLIGHTS.jpg and of course I could Google the words, ping lights, but maybe others don't know what they mean either. Can you tell us? I'm thinking of something like warning lights for boats at night in a foggy harbor.... seems like long ago I knew.

Also, if you feel like sharing, it would be interesting to know which parts of the work were done in Corel Painter and what methods you used.

It's hard to say exactly because it's fluid.  What I'm doing most of the time is the underpainting, akin to paint pouring, splashing of paint, the randomness, in Studio Artist.   Then doing the glazing, the tweaking, the finishing strokes as well as adding my chop and a frame in Painter.

Ping lights - Ping is the Ping River than runs through Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand and the lights are the temple lights lit as dusk, or the feel of such, as there's no one temple sketched  here.  The color is the saffron of monk's robes and sunset.

Thanks, Suchin, for such a lovely and interesting description of Ping Lights. My guess was pretty far off, except for the water. I like the real description better than my guess.

Most of us can understand it's hard to describe exactly what was done to create an image, especially when we've been in that special space where everything around us is forgotten. Still, you gave us enough about how you worked to get the general idea.

    Thanks again. :)

Studio Artist at the moment is Mac only though it will be available for the PC sometime soon. Jean Detheux is the one who told me about it.

The mood and the colours seem to exude peace and tranquility suchin. The water is captured beautifully. The border gives me the impression of capturing a glimpse, through an ancient window, of a very private place. It is one of those images that I could just sit and enjoy looking at whilst slipping into a state of meditation.

I had no idea what pinglights were but I am not at all surprised by your explanation. I personally feel you have captured the ethos of such a place beautifully and thank you for sharing this work.

I look forward to seeing more of your work here.  This is very interesting and also your explanation of the ping lights.
