    Navigation Window in Painter X

I am fairly new to Painter. Does anyone know if Painter X has a navigation pallete/window like the one in Photoshop? I am trying to create a multi-monitor workspace using a Cintiq and another LCD monitor and would like to see the complete image (on the LCD) while working on a section of that image on the Cintiq. In Photoshop this is easy to setup. But other than selecting the field glasses icon at the bottom of the Painter canvas window (for a momentary view), there does not seem to be a similar feature (that I have discovered, at least). Any suggestions?

    Many thanks!

    Hi tmccabe,

    Welcome to The PainterFactory!

I've moved your thread out of the Got a Question? forum since it's not related to technical issues or bug reports the Corel Painter developers would need to address, and moved it into the appropriate forum, Corel Painter X, where general understanding and use of the program are discussed.

    To answer your question:

Currently, Corel Painter doesn't allow us to open a full size dynamic second version of the working image. There are some other ways to view the overall image, though.

    Info Palette

In addition to the Navigation icon (which you've already discovered), in the Info palette, you'll see a small view of your working image that's dynamically updated as you work.

    Navigation Window

Since others reading this thread may not know where it is or how to use it, I'll explain the Navigation icon and Navigation window below:

    1. Zoom in on your image.

    2. Click the Navigation icon (binoculars) in the lower left corner of the image window.

    3. Another small view of the entire image, a little more than twice the size of the Info palette view, opens with a red rectangle describing the currently visible area of the image.

    4. Click and drag the red rectangle to go to another area of the image.

    5. Click in the image to close the Navigation window's overall view of your image and continue working.

    File > Clone

The only other way to see a second view (not dynamic) of your image at full size while working on it is to use File > Clone. Then, when you're finished viewing it, just close the Clone.

    Request for Enhancement

Many of us have asked for a full size dynamic view of the working image and hope Corel will be able to provide this feature in a future version of Painter.

You might want to add the request to the Painter Wish List thread located in the Suggestion Box forum.

Thanks for the reply, Jinny. I suspected this feature was not available. Anyone creating something from scratch probably wouldn't need it. But anyone who uses photos or scanned drawings in Painter would probably appreciate the full size dynamic view - especially when using a multi-monitor setup where space isn't at a premium. I'll post a request in the Painter Wish List.
