problems using distort effect in painter

I just started using Painter X on my new macbook pro.  with my wacom tablet.  I'm following along with a lesson from Ryan Church....doing everything exactly like he says.  I choose my layer, go to effects, orientation, distort.....it puts my image in the box with the handles but doesn't allow me to move any of them at all.  ????  The other effects seem to be working fine.....kinda stumped.

    Hi Ray:

Are you working on Leopard?  If so, there is a known issue that is specific to Leopard where the Distort effect does not work. Unfortunately, there is no workaround at this time.

Do you think that using the Free Transform effect will achieve the same result you need, as using the Distort effect?  Jinny Brown posted a description of the 2 different effects that you may find helpful: http://painterfactory.com/forums/p/390/1016.aspx#1016.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

    Thanks Wendy,

(big sigh) at least I know I'm not crazy now...well.

I really wanted to use the distort effect to give my piece the perspective it needs.  It seems the freeform just changes the height and width of the entire layer.

Oh well it would have been a time saver but nothing I can do now until Leopard is updated to fix the problem.

Thanks again for your help....much appreciated.

    Have a super day

    cheers
    Ray

    Hi Ray,

You may still be able to do what you want, and it's worth a try.

To learn how to distort (or skew) a Layer (Reference Layer, after Effects > Orientation > Free Transform is selected), read the following:

Painter X Help > Help Topics > Contents tab > Layers

Click the Plus sign to the left of Layers, then click Editing Layers.

On the right panel, near the top, click the link named Working with Reference Layers. Then read the sub section named To transform a reference layer, and the instructions to Skew a reference layer.

For another method to transform a Layer (Reference Layer), also read the sub section named To set reference layer options.

    Good luck!
