    Newbie help please

     Hi all

Just a quick question as i cant find the answer in the help files.

I am cloning a picture, but its quite a long job, because i am using very small  clone strokes (with the chalk cloner). As you can appreciate real life gets in the way (very inconveniently) and i have to save my work, overnight!

What file extension do i save it with? Do i need layers etc?............So it stays as a cloned image with the tracing paper, to use again next time i open the file.

Every time i re-open my saved file so far the tracing paper has gone and i can no longer clone my piccy! Very frustrating and a bit soul destroying too

I'm sure i'm missing something really obvious

    Thanks for any help

    Trina

    Hi Trina

Save the file as a Painter file (.rif) simply because other formats may have a destructive effect on your work

Next day open the file you worked on and the original file that you cloned. Then go to "file" in the top menu bar and set the clone source to the original file.

Switch back to your work and select the clone tool you were using and you'll be able to pickup where you left off.

thankyou Tony. I think i'd worked it out by the time i came online just now, but i was great to see from what you said that i'd got it right!!

I persisted with Corel Photopaint for 10 years, but was never really happy with my results

But now i've found a prog that i can really plunge into ........  It so nice to have brushes that behave more like real paintbrushes. 'Cept i think the watercolour brushes will be a steep learning curve for me, i think

Yeah, I don't find the watercolour side of painter to my liking, it's OK but nothing like the real thing (for me)

You can see from the Vicars Tea Party painting on my site, that is sort of gets there.

Still a fantastic product and from a commercial point of view a fabulous tool to have in your arsenal.

    Hi Trina,

Since this forum is for help using The PainterFactory, your thread belongs in either the Corel Painter X forum if you're using Painter X or X.1, or in the Painter Past forum if you're using an earlier Painter version.

Please tell us what Painter version you're using and I'll move the thread to the appropriate forum.

    Thanks!
