This is another in a series of family photos. Unfortunately we do not know her name.... but the photo looks like it was taken sometime in the late 30’s or early 1940’s.

I think who ever took this photo had a great sense of composition. Most people taking snapshots would have just centered her in the frame.

The challenge here was to maintain the composition yet still make the trees and the grass interesting to the viewer.

Designed and painted in Painter primarily using Liquid Ink.
The completed painting had a Bas Relief created and applied in Photoshop. The
image was then brought back into Painter and a Blender Blur and a final Texture
of Small Dots applied in selected areas. The presented image is the best
available of this final approach as Painter chocked and would not save. I did
manage to force it to save this jpg of the finished product; just not the
layered riff.

With the shear amount of work I have to do I have to keep my paintings down to about 2 hours per image, so the style needs to be quick yet understandable.

Here are three of my works.

Sunday Morning Coming Down

Recently Completed after getting my new computer (and getting re-inspired)

This was done with Painter 11 Oil Pastels (but I initially started it using Acrylics) It is approx 5600 x 3700 pixels -- all painted traditionally on a single layer (other than background with is separate) and is from a reference photograph I took of a nearby church at Sunrise.

I've never used, nor owned and don't know anything about photoshop. QUESTION... in conjunction with Painter, what does photoshop add to creating your digital images? My newbie understanding - obviously wrong - photoshop is for photographers. So, how do concept artists use Photoshop and why? Even my John Derry's, Essentials of Painter, has cursory training in PS. Am I missing something?

The photo was taken in 1906 - one year after Geronimo rode in President Theodore Roosevelt's inaugural parade and three years before his death.
