Never mind, Ron. There's plenty of well-behaving, and methinks more impressive, substitutes for SketchPad around nowadays. Paint Tool SAI and the new souped up Art Rage, to give just two examples well worth checking out at least. But as for SketchPad ...

Sold off old computer last year. Winds XP machine that Corel SketchPad had amazingly installed on without any glitch at all. But when I came to strip off my programs etc I discovered that Corel SketchPad refused to uninstall. Can't recall now if it was 'Fatal Error' or else 'Corrupted Files' messages I got. Anyhow, had to restrain self from posting a 'Can't uninstall it' thread. Just didn't seem worth the bother - except for further fun in the way of divertissement.

Ok, spoke too soon. I got it to run once, but it fails to run again. Tried compatibility in everything.. all the way back to WinXP. No joy.

Hi, just wanted to pop in and post on this thread in case people are still having problems.

I have Windows 7 x64 and went through all of the fixes in this thread, could not get it to work. It would still hang on launch and I would have to end task. I tried the fix they issued and would get the "did not install, not present" error. So right before I uninstalled it, I then went in and right clicked the icon, and clicked on "Compatability Mode" and selected Vista SP2. Then it fired right up. I also have to say, I am VERY impressed with this software.

On a side note, the problem with registry keys is very common. There are tons of programs that leave registry keys. A good program to use to clear those out is CCleaner, its freeware and attaches to your recycle bin. Just open it up, select registry and it will do a scan to find all the old keys, then you can delete them.

When I was nipper I bought The Voices of Silence by André Malraux. Big book about art and civilization, and believe me it's still sitting unread on same shelf.

I was going to phone Corel about this issue, but after reading the entire thread i thought it would be pointless. So i thought what the hell, I just go with this fix, it wasn't too scary and it now works like a dream . Thanks for your help.

In my eyes, Corel certainly have done well to damage their reputation.

However it working, all thanks to yourself and this community.

There might be some help available for your problem from the knowledgable and courteous users of this forum if you do some searching. I needn't add that this is, naturally, free of charge, but I would understand if you have decided to drop the whole thing in the trash, given your experience.

I DL'd the trial version today, but keep getting the (not responding) error. I have chatted online with CS and they told me to call in. I did so. Then came the arguement. I was told that since I did not purchase it, I could recieve no help. I pointed out that this is to make me WANT to buy the product and that me andmy family have been faithfull Corel users and buyers since Corel 4. However, I was told that this was not an excuse and that if I wanted help, I would need to buy the product. I am beyond offended. I think that Miguel #7235 needs to be fired. I told him that I wanted to speak to a supervisor and was told that would not happen. They might call me in 2-3 days. This is ridiculous. I just have to say.

Dear Diary. Drafted response to Westward without much freshness of tone. So I started drafting post for Wacom Europe. Took a while to draft new username and get myself registered. Ate cannelloni and wiped it off chin. Then posted Wacom thing and came back here to say so. Am getting to be quite the little writer and less of an artist these days, for better or wose. Sic.

Dear Westward, your words ring true. Don't call it rant, it's quite understandable valid frustration. With CS4 it's update update update almost more often than you can keep up with. Speaking of which, the free Anastasiy ColorPicker plugin for Photoshop CS4 is excellent for painting with (although the latest version needs drastically fixing - Anastasiy posting at Adobe forums for help there.)

Even Amazon UK is having review-publishing blips. Took 2 versions and doggone persistence but at last it manifested.

Re Edit: I don't know that all that uninstalling/reinstalling of Corel products so far this year is good for the health of one's machine. The very thought of backing up my brushes one more time and checking them over afterwards - no, no, no! Not when there's a tasty little tablet netbook coming out next month that just might make a very handy Sketch Pad.

Still no solution to this? I have to confess on having given up on Corel about 8 years ago and use Adobe products professionally. Was hoping this would be a turn around. So far it's not going so well. :(

I contacted Wacom support on the issue about 5 days ago and have heard nothing from them at all.

Edit: I got it working but I had to delete the Corel reg keys. Easy for me as I have no other Corel products. I might suggest uninstalling all of your Corel products, restarting, deleting all remaining Corel reg keys and reinstalling all your Corel apps. Pathetic that we consider such options in 2009. This is the kind of crap we used to deal with in the '90s. Sorry, rant over.

I did finally get a response from Corel:

"It appears that you are using an OEM no. for a trial program.

This will not work because the installer you are using must be the one that came along with the no.

Use the installer from your device itself not a downloaded one.

Please do not hesitate to contact us for any further questions."

Hmmm.
