Any news on patch/update for Mac version of P11?

... been wanting/waiting to use it eventually , but in its current state I have to stick w/ PX. It's been sometime since the initial release had prevalent problems. Looking for news on the Mac front as I'm sure many other professionals are too. Thanks.

No response in over two months? Wow. And the patch has been out for Windows since May, and here it is mid-September. Corel? Hello? Are you abandoning your Mac users?

    Hi Bob,

I too was hoping for something coming down the pike would have arrived by now. I was told it was coming shortly. I tried running 11 about a week ago, after putting it away for months due to the documented problems. Not good:

The very annoying brush ghosting artifacts began to show shortly, eventually enough where I knew I could not finish the piece I was working on in P11. Here's where I have real concerns... I switched over to PX after closing down P11, and PX began to exhibit the same artifacts, w/in a short time. My Mac Pro does not do this w/PX, but here it was. I tried quitting and restarts but it would not go away (infecting PX could not have been a coincidence). I ran "Cocktail" to clean things out, and I was back to normal. Needless to say, I will not be touching P11, again, until an update hits.

    Hi Guys,

The Win patch came out quickly as there were some issues with stray dabs - Mac users didn't have this problem. That ghosting issue sounds annoying, you can try turning it off in the general preferences and use the standard Painter cursor to see if that helps for now. Let me know if it does.

I am a Mac user as well and I dont have this issue (of course). As for a Mac specific patch, we dont have one in development at the moment, but it's very good to know that feedback. We do take these issues very seriously. We are working on some additions to Painter - expect some news over the next few months.

    Cheers,

    Hi Rob,

I began using Painter when version 7 was out. I have embraced every upgrade since... except 11. I could not use it and be productive. I do know to turn off enhanced brush ghosting option (that has bogged down P severly in the last editions as well). But basic ghost brushing is apart of my work flow. I very much like/desire/need(!) seeing the brush size as I work.

PX has been a joy for me. PX hardly has ever crashed on me (it is as stable as PS for me). I would like/wishlist Painter to use more installed memory (I have 10 GB!), but it is wasted on Painter (yes, I am amongst the "production" group who makes my living w/ Painter, so yes, I desire pro power user features, better memory use, P not bogging down after a few layers. I love the new water color, but it kills my speed (and there's not too many out there that have a more powerful speedier "set up" Mac than me) and not all this sidebar effort towards cloning photos, etc. But I understand if those features put "butts in the seats" for Corel. I am a realist).

I KNOW is not recent news to some at Corel that quite a few of us professionals out here, had to drop using P11 to get our work done, going back to PX(first time I had to do this in Painter's upgrades. I am/was on Leopard, now Snow Leopard). This hurt, as I am an upgrade guy. I reported plenty in detail, hardware, etc. (maybe to Steve) at the time. And heard not too long ago back directly from someone Corel that a Mac update/patch was in the works...so you are catchingme off guard here?

When I get time, not right now, I will try P11 w/ Snow Leopard, and see what results I get. Obviously P11 was even effecting PX in negative way on my machine w/ 10.5.8. Something is not right. Thanks, Rob.

Thanks for your post, Tim. I've been ready to pull my hair out with P11. When I could't find a patch ANYwhere for mac, I thought: Is it ME? Figured that  my ol' duo G5 just wasn't up to the task. I reinstalled PX (so hated to, but, you know...gotta work--FASTER), and voila! Back in biz! I had processing lag after EVERY stroke—even the simpler "dry" media, and even a short stroke. It was killin' me, that wait time. I'm on deadline, and realllly don't need lags. So, thanks for the discussion here.

    Thanks to you too Jaynie.

I don't think we are not alone w/ this. Can't recall the resource but we weren't the only ones experiencing this when P11 first came out. I look forward to when Corel can nail down what's going on and a mac update is released and I can use P11.

    Very nice portfolio, btw!

    Hi:

One of the solutions I've found for lagging brushes in PX and P 11 is to TURN OFF Enhanced Brush Ghosting (this is the cursor that visually displays the Wacom stylus's tilt, bearing, and rotation).

My guess is that displaying this—as well as updating the underlying pixels which are changing due to the brush's stroke) adds significant processing bandwidth that can literally slow the strokes down. This may be some of what you are referring to in your post, as well, Tim.

    Hello John,

Yes sir, turning that off definitely helps for those that aren't aware. I've had it turned off since PX (I may have mentioned that above?), so I think it's not a factor is the flow of P11 for me?

Ditto. I've never had the ghosting option turned on. And once I went back to PX, I started getting the lovely "I/O data map out of entries" or whatever the heck that was (I have purposely tried to forget it). Deleted the painter script in the library, and now all is good. For now. She says, searching for wood to knock on...

Re: Any news on patch/update for Mac version of P11?

    Well that didn't go well...

Had some time this evening. Uninstalled P11 and tried to find any related files and trashed. Installed P11 now that I have Snow Leopard.

Right from the get go,I can not change the papers? I click on it and the pop up window doesn't show, I just get my cursor changing to the little white hand. Nothing.

Loaded my custom library from PX, same result. One paper shows, and I can not change it?I see the papers are "there" when I go to the Paper Mover, but that doesn't do me much good.

    Back to PX...

Ummm...I'm sorry for interupting. I can't seen to find a section where you ask questions. It's probably right in front of me, but I cannot find it. Any help would be greatly appricated. thank you.

    Hi Tim,

For some unknown reason, in Painter 11 we need to have at least one existing image or new Canvas open on the screen to use the Papers palette. Again, I can't think why the developers would do this and hope they'll fix it soon. It's annoying, if not disabling, and many people new to Painter 11 have been confused by this behavior.
