Service Pack 1 does not work

After waiting almost a year since giving up dealing with the error 18 problems, I was notified on 1-6-10 that service pack one for Painter 11 for Macintosh was available for download. So . . . after launching it, it does not 'see' the Painter 11 app still patiently waiting in the app folder. I really don't want to go through all the un-install / re-install / use only Rosetta stuff again - spent hours and hours dealing with the error 18 message issue last year. Oh well, maybe 2011 will bring a new service pack. Anyone with sure fixes or ideas?

if you did absolutely anything to modify the initial install in your programs folder the patch will not take....

the only sure fire workaround is to uninstall/reinstall the application from the original source then apply the patch on top of that...

uninstall is just throwin' it in the trash on a mac...

    hope this helps

Re: Service Pack 1 does not work

This is where I started last March - the app was originally purchased as a download, my off-hand guess, sometime in 2008. It was first installed on hardware that was replaced last march (the re-installs were attempted on a new MacPro nehalem model). That's when the error 18 messages first began to appear. I went round and round with Corel tech support then about un-istalling, re-installing, running it as a Rosetta app, etc., etc., until it was taking up more time than it was worth; I felt like a beta tester - several hundred $ for the purchase of the app for an un-usable one on new hardware. So I just let it sit while watching rss feeds about others having the same problem, hoping to see a solution - never did. The present service pack recommends trashing the application from the application folder and Corel files from the user's library's application support folder. This was done. Still does not work, and now, since the trash was emptied per the service packs instructions, I don't even have a non-functioning application file to put back in the applications folder.

    Next idea?

    Dear Fellow Painter Users

Service Pack 1 isn't working for me, either. It says Painter 11 isn't installed on my Mac.

    I disagree. Strongly.

Re: Service Pack 1 does not work - tah dah, it works

After some back and forth with Corel, I re-installed the original purchased download, and without launching it, installed the service pack. It's now running as version 11.01.43 on Mac OS 10.6.2 on an intel MacPro nehalem. Seems stable. I owe you a thank you, Corel.

Re: Service Pack 1 does not work

    Dear All,

I have the same problem. I receive the message  "CorelPainter 11_SP1 can't be installed on this disk. Corel Painter is not present on this volume".

Well, it is on the volume!  I have modified Painter 11 only by added new brushes. Does this mean that I still have to uninstall and then reinstall?

    Thanks for any help.

    Hi hda:

Can you please check to see if you have a receipts file?  It should be located here: Volume/Library/Receipts/.  The name of the file is Corel Painter 11.pkg.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

Re: Service Pack 1 does not work

I have the same problem as hda. I am using the academic version (Mac), so maybe that's what my issue is. I am reluctant to do a whole re-install just yet as I am working on the art for a stage backdrop and can't afford any downtime. I'll just keep lurking to see what y'all come up with,

    Thanks, Heidi

    Hi Heidi:

Could you also please check to see if you have a receipts file?  It should be located here: Volume/Library/Receipts/.  The name of the file is Corel Painter 11.pkg.

Please reply back and let us know :)

    Hi Wendy:

No, I don't. Just a couple of adobe things and a clip art receipt.

    Thanks,  Heidi

    Hi Heather:

Then I would recommend uninstalling and reinstalling... when you have the time of course :)

Please let me know if you still can't install the patch after you try this.

    Hi Heidi:

Can you please create a file called Corel Painter 11.pkg and put it in your Volume/Library/Receipts folder?  It doesn't need to have anything in the file.  Then try running the patch again and see if it works.

    Thanks!

    Hi Wendy:

Okay... did that. Tried the patch and there is still the alert message saying that Painter 11 is not installed. Rebooted and then same thing.

    Thanks,

    Heidi

    Hi Wendy,

I have un-installed and re-installed Painter, installed the SP and all seems well. Painter tells me I have version 11.0.1.43.

Thank you very much for your help, I apprecaite it.
