    Crash when opening color selector

    I am running Painter 11 (v. 11.0.1.43), Mac OS-X (v. 10.6.2) on a Mac Pro (2009).

Every time I bring up the color chooser the program crashes.

This happens when selecting the paper color in the file->new dialog as well as when I double-click on either of the main/alternate color boxes.

I've tried reinstalling but still no luck.

    Has anyone else experienced this?

    Any known solutions?

    Thanks!

    Bob

hmmm... possibly your workspace has become corrupt?!?  Have you saved a version of your workspace when it was working properly?  If so you could try importing the older version. Reinstalling doesn't fix this as it is a separate 'user' setting which isn't deleted when the program is.

If you haven't saved a workspace or are just using the default one then you may have to reset the program to see if that fixes the problem.  Remember to save all your brush varients, palettes, papers, nozzles and anything else etc first or they will be deleted permanently.  Hold down the shift key as the program starts up to get the reset prompt dialogue box.

Re: Crash when opening color selector

I don't have any workspaces saved that I could try.  Sad part is that I don't really know when the problem began since I usually go with the default paper color on new files and change colors by dragging the selector around the wheel once files are open.

I tried resetting Painter using the shift-key while launching method but it didn't help.

Sounds like maybe this is an issue unique to my installation/system.

I can live with it, but it'd be nice to get it resolved.

    Thanks for your input!

Ok, I located the source of the problem.  It's Google Sketchup, which I installed about a month ago.  It adds a 'materials' tab to the standard Apple color picker and apparently this is causing problems with other applications.

The fix: (this comes from a Google employee):

The fix for me was to trash the NSColorPanelSwatches.plist in the user's Library/Colors/ folder. Any attempt to edit out the SketchUpColor entry in a plist editor ends up trashing the file regardless.

I removed the file and all is well.

    Thanks again for your input!
