Hi grunged... you could associate a paper to a specific brush by using Looks. Let me know if you need some help with instructions on creating one.

It looks like there's a problem with the Welcome screen - if you hit Esc it will be dismissed and you should be able to use the application as normal.

From this line, it looks as though you are not using the most up to date version of Painter 12 which is 12.1.0.1250.

Are you downloading from the Corel website? Have you tried updating via the application? To do this, go to your Help menu and click Check for updates.
