Upgrade for Painter Essentials 4

I clicked on "Upgrades"....wanting to see if there were any.

For the 'Windows version'?

The only 'upgrade' available.....is for a MAC (Leopard version).

Oh, great!.

"Painter Essentials 4" (for Windows).........is very temperamental, to say the least!

It (the software) is very particular!..........................in about how it is being used!

Get it wrong, and 'Error windows'.....pop up.

Continuiously!.

  • Hi Jeffery,
I was lucky to get my PE4 ....as a friend bought the Bamboo Wacom pack… that included Photoshop Elements, PE4 , a 6"x8" graphite board and pen for a $101 Cool…she paid about $370. She ended up with a real flash laptop type computer…. I'm not sure what they are called but all you do is write or draw on its screen and its completely waterproof.

I used a tracker ball that was on the Mac portable (now in my Mac museum lol ) for some medical illustrations and drug and alcohol pics…but that was some years back now.  They were only in black and white… the writers were happy enough.  Even though I've the pen I still like using the mouse but I guess old habits die hard… I'll have to start using the pen (whenever the problem with the paint-draw is fixed cos it kind of goes hand in hand lol)

Hey it's great that you're doing a Digital Art course at uni, I'm sure you'll fly through it… I'm just a Carer from my mum now so it's handy to have the computer and paint close by her rather than in the shed where I used to do oils but it's a fair way from the house.. I'm also on a small farm…few sheep, olive trees, heaps of bird life and other native animals.  I hope to paint them on the PE4 soon!

    Cheers    Sam

  • Hi Jennifer,

I'm not sure this is the place to post this, but I am also having a problem with Painter Essentials 4. I installed the patch and the program worked once. Now when I try to launch it I get a dialog box which says " This copy of Painter has been damaged or illegally modified. Please install from your original disks. I don't have original disks since I installed online. I do re download the program, re install the patch, and wind up with the same dialog box. I really need this program. I am an editorial cartoonist and Painter saves me untold hours finishing my cartoons. Many thanks for any help you can offer.

    Barry

  • Barry

Sorry to hear this has happened after installing the patch. Can you tell me what OS and type of computer you are running PE4 on?

    Thanks
    Jennifer

  •  Barry, have a look...... at "About", in Painter Essentials 4.

This will allow you to see what the Product Key ID is.

    Write it down (as-is).......then, Contact............Corel.

    About getting the Program replaced.

Having done all that (if they will allow you to do another download 'copy'), first, make a Folder....on your computer's 'Desktop'.

    Name it aptly....."My Installs".

Download the Painter Essentials 4, again.

Use the "Save as----" option, then, locate that new Folder (My Installs) you just made, and, save the new downlaod.....into it.

Later on, you can burn this new download.......to a CD, or DVD. (whichever one will hold the whole Program.)

This is what I do..............with ALL the "Install.Exec" programs!...........I have, for all my computer's Programs!

And, you can build up a good Collection...of these, this way, to actually use a DVD...for the collection.

Date this Collection (And, keep this Collection well updated, even if you have to make a new Collection, on a monthly basis.)

My reason for this....is IF you have to a reinstallation............of OS, or any Program, you already the latest Version available............in this Folder (or, burnt...to a disk)

Never again, will you be caught out...................in losing any/all Programs............that you have 'paid for/downloaded' off the Internet.

IF you do have this 'download'...of Painter, somewhere still in your computer, burn it to CD/DVD...........then, Uninstall Painter.

Then, reinstall it....along with the 'patch'

Which begs me to ask.......................what is your OS (Operating System)?

    Hopefully, a Mac.

As the ony 'patch' available..................is for a Mac 'Leopard'

if you have XP(or Vista), and have used this patch............no wonder you have such a problem.

"Painter essentials 4" will definitely have to be uninstalled, then, reinstalled

The only other 'possibility', is,..................that you have used 1 of "Painter Essentials 4" many options......in the wrong manner!, resulting in this 'error' showing up.

Which I do think that you have done so, why I do believe this is the case?

I have done the same thing....to my "Painter Essentials 4".(caused this error..to appear). Not the wrong patch 'error'....but, using, say, the wrong Brush Selection...or, tried to size the Pad-size....out of range, of the parimeters the Program gives...to the 'Work-area'

    Lucky me!

I already have the software (I 'bought it',too, on-line!)...............safely tucked away....in That Folder I asked you to create, for yourself.

Even if I don't use it, I also have another Legit version..............of Painter Essentials 4 (as a 'back-up'), that came in a 'bundle' of Software when I bought a Wacom Bamboo Fun Graphics Tablet

And, the 'error'............DID 'correct' itself! (When I reverted back.....to the Default Settings....of the software.)

By the way, i am using XP Pro (SP3)............fully updated...to the hilt.

So far, this "" This copy of Painter has been damaged or illegally modified. Please install from your original disks" error..........has never returned...to haunt me, yet!

Refining my use....of the Software, to me, seems to have worked out right, after all.
