It says the program is compatibility with psd, tiff, and jpg files. Do these files have to be 8 bit only or will it take 16 bit files?
8 bit only, and no extra complicated stuff - no adjustment layers, no editable text, no nested layer groups (groups inside of groups), no clipping layers; I don't remember if painter essentials supports layer masking, but it's safer to avoid those as well for stability and performance reasons.
hope this helps!
Thanks for your reply. That was the only file format that i could get to work. Interesting that it doesn't tell you this anywhere i looked.
it's unfortunate that they broke support for .jpg and .tiff filetypes, but there's a history of (known) feature malfunctions that only get addressed by corel when the number of user reports hits a certain point.
on a side-note, is there a chance you performed a factory rest on your painter essentials? this version doesn't allow saving custom assets, so you shouldn't lose anything aside from the list of recently used files, but it might somehow bring .jpg import back at least. it should work. it's like a staple for any graphic app.
to perform a factory reset, hold shift while launching painter and follow the prompts.
^^ Yes good advice to reset.
Isn't PNG supported as well? I just tried PNG and it seemed to work just fine.
@ellenk, outside of 16-bit images, what difficulties were you having?
