The female Black Widow with red hourglass belly marking is shown in this painting. She is twice the size of her less colorful male counterpart. They are found throughout the temperate regions of the world. Female Black widows are considered the most venomous spider in North America. Her venom is 15 times stronger than that of a rattlesnake, but because of the small amount injected during a bite they are seldom fatal to healthy adults.
Original graphic created in vector software. The flooring was painted with Wet Sumi-e, then textured to simulate 3D; toes were painted using Thick Acrylic Round brush; Black Widow painted with Thick Acrylic Flat.
Excellent brushwork- the point of view with the finger makes the image.
Well done, as usual. I have a few of these making webs on my lanai. I knock them down but they just get up and do it again.
