Cintiq Companion 2 or Surface Pro 3?

Cintiq Companion 2 or Surface Pro 3?

I have been thinking a long time of getting a decent tablet to paint on using Painter. I am not yet sure, but since I read the opinions on Surface Pro 3 from Christina Forshay on her blog "Simply Messing about" I think that is my choise. But I have to wait a while. I want tro try the new Wacom tablet before. The Microsoft device  seems to be the light weight, 800 grams for this, while Cintiq2 weight 1700. The Wacom thing is heavy! You dont hold 1700 grams for long without an exhausted hand or arm.

I have no bad thoughts the display on Surface Pro 3 after reading what Christina Forshay wrote, not about the digital pen pressure, you won´t notice any any difference between Surface Pro 3's 256 levels and Cintiq Companion 2's 2048. Yoy won't notice. No bad thought about the Surface Pro 3 screen ratio 3:2 while Cintiq Companion 2 has 16:9. I think 3:2 is more attractive to me. And so on...

But I will wait for a while to see if I can test the new Wacom thing first...

  • I have a surface pro 3 and it works great with painter 2015. I like that it has a higher screen resolution and it's WAY lighter (not to mention longer battery life - the fact is what's the point of having a mobile tablet if it doesn't last very long)? Getting around the express keys, there is a great program called RadialMenu, that's free, where you can set up a custom key bar on your screen. I've set mine up on the left side, so I keep modifier keys, undo\redo zoomin\zoomout right where my left hand thumb can hit them. I think I prefer it to hardware keys because i can customize their size, position, and functions more easily. You can even program in macros.
