is there a way to simply change my painting into greyscales to check the values? For example in a layer or just change the navigator view in greyscales? It should not be permanently changed, I would just like to check the values from time to time cause I'm new to digital painting and cannot see the difference on first sight between the values in my painting yet.

Have you tried using the channels? I decided to delete my copy since I am getting a mac soon and need to buy a mac version of the program, but I remember seeing the channels panel.
