I just tried it. GPU acceleration is something I've been looking forward to for years. AND......it doesn't work on my pc. Even though my Radeon Fury X is OpenCL 1.2 compliant and I use OpenCL 1.2 renderers with my GPU. For whatever reason painter doesn't work with it, but even painter says it has OpenCL 1.2 but the option is greyed out. Nice job Corel. What a buzz kill.
considering they quietly shipped painter 2019 with no multi-core CPU support, this sounds 20/20 on brand for painter.
2019 HAS multicore. It has always worked great with 'em. Whaddaya?? I think if ya couldn't make up something to be miserable about you'd be profoundly unhappy. 20/20 is working wickedly good!
Try it out before grinching, this release is ACTUALLY causing the hairs on my neck to prickle!
Brendoon there's either some unfortunate choice of words, or intentional gaslighting going on with your comments for a while now;
on the subject of that particular feature "always" "working" "great":
confirmed by painter 2019 SP1 release notes (not even mac-specific):
thank you for sharing an interesting personal anecdote about your neck hairs.
I agree with Brendoon, I never encountered any multi core issues in Painter 2019. And I've always monitored btw. I'm using Windows 10, so I don't know about the mac version.
Not even the usual YouTube stans found anything to say about this release other than UI tweaks.
The watercolor engine is still garbage, ridiculously technical and unrealistic, the hose (multi brush tips in other software) is still the biggest joke of painting, I want to paint foliage using many captured dabs so they change each time I tap the stylus with any color I want, I don't want to bedazzle my work with images of beads that are color locked.
I'll be waiting for Rebelle 4 this time, apparently they too have been working on speeding up their brushes, at least they don't charge an arm and a leg to upgrade. I just can't believe this upgrade costs anything TBH, Affinity Serif just dropped a massive upgrade to Designer for free and Krita got a new "Creamy" brush engine.
I get optimization is difficult, I don't dislike brush speed improvements and I commend Corel for finally doing it after many years of users asking, but I sure as hell ain't paying what they're asking for it, I'm a loyal user but I'm not that loyal. This upgrade needs an 80% discount at the very least.
You're correct about the upgrade. Most recent upgrades should have been free, including this one. Since Painter 7 (that's what, 18 years ago?) there have been about 12 paid upgrades when in reality that number should have been three or four max.
Hell, I'd be more tempted to part with £180 if Corel would actually get this fkn copy and paste bug sorted out. Maybe they want to stand out from the crowd as THE only commercial software package in 2020 that can't copy and paste properly, I don't know, but the fact they have failed over two decades to implement possibly the most basic user operation in computing history says something about their vision for the software.
