I notice the Eraser controls have changed from the usual.
Previously we had the choice of a hard or soft eraser but NOW it's based on a brush selection.
I guess that's something a lot of us have asked for. In the meantime it'll present some minor issues, like quickly switching between eraser brush types. I imagine that'll be a matter of selecting from "recent" brushes or from a custom palette.
Nope, I was wrong about the eraser being selected from brush types.
It looks like you choose the eraser behaviour from the dab types but its going to take some experimentin' before I nail that one.
The Eraser Tool is now customizable - more available dab profiles and also you can use some brush controls like Min Size and Spacing - that is something I have wanted to see for a while - mostly because I like to switch quickly between the Eraser Tool and Brush Tool with a keyboard shortcut when I am sketching and the Eraser Tool options were pretty limited (and there was no way to switch quickly between a brush variant and eraser variant with the keyboard) - but now they've added this feature as well - also something I wanted. So I'm happy to see these changes - gives a lot more options when working. Unfortunately I am getting some lag when switching from the Eraser Tool to the Brush Tool - so hopefully this gets addressed in a patch.
COOL! Also just discovered the dab types provide an eraser option I've always wanted: hard edged with pen pressure affecting only size, not transparency(well, a whole lot less than before). The second and third from the right are good for editing inked pen outlines.
I'm also becoming accustomed to the 2 second lag switching from eraser back to brush.
I think this improved eraser and improved brush stroke previews will make 20/20 a worthwhile purchase for me. Thanks Painter team!
I never realised there was an eraser until I read this thread. I've always used a custom captured brush with the 'eraser' method, meaning that it has all the controls available to ordinary brushes.
That's interesting that you didn't realize there was an Eraser Tool. I agree that making a custom eraser brush variant is the way to go but you could never switch between a normal brush and eraser variant with the keyboard before so I used to work with the Brush Tool and Eraser Tool so that I could switch back and forth with a key command (B for brush and N for eraser.) But the eraser tool was very limited - only hard and soft mode. Very nice to see some new options all around. Just hope they fix the lag.
