I just got myself Corel Painter 2020 and I am trying to set it up to my preferences.
However, I have problems docking panels to the side of my window. When I grab a panel, e.g. "Color and Layers" and drag it to the edge of the main window, a red semi-transparent bar appears, about 5mm wide. At that moment, when I release my mouse button, the panel returns to the original place where I started dragging from.
What am I missing?

I don't remember what they're called in painter 2020, but you are grabbing a panel stack (dock?..), not a single panel. stacks can't be docked to the screen edges.
you have to unpin color wheel, layer palette, anything else that is stacked together, and stick them to the edges one by one.
to test how this works, drag the "color" panel by its title out of the stack anywhere on the canvas, and try sticking it to the left or right.
you can also stick horizontal palettes to the screen top and/or bottom respectively.
Ah, that may be the issue indeed! Thank you!
I wish the program communicated a bit better what I was doing wrong.
