HOW TO COLOR in Corel Painter Essentials 6 PLEASE HELP BEGINNER ARTIST :)

Hello tomorrow i bought my first Graphic Tablet (Wacom Intuos Pen) and I received graphic program for free (Corel Painter Essentials 6) I'm beginner artist. I want to create anime/manga characters content in color. So when I will finish my sketch what should I do to color my character. I have a problem with that because the layers like (skin, hair, costume, underwear) overlap and it makes it harder. For example in these pictures .

Examples of kind of arts I want to draw:

Sometime I saw a video material on YouTube where someone was making a lot of layers and putting colors on them in such a way that they didn't overlap the sketch and other layers. Can someone explain me how to paint my sketch with many elements like hair, skin, costume, underwear through the best (easiest) way? You can link video materials too (it would be nice) ;) thanks in advance.

  • I'm not an expert but in the full version of Painter on your Layers palette for each layer you can turn off Pick Up Underlying Color and/or Lock the Layer- not sure what is available in Essentials, but you should be able to create a new layer and label it for hair etc.,
