When making a selection with the lasso selection tool I would like to be able to have a mask that shows the area selected - or its inverse - in colour. Similar to that in Affinity Photo. Is this possible in Corel Painter 2019
I see that this is possible when using the 'selection' brushes in Painter but none of these does the same job as a lasso selection... can anyone point me in the right direction to maybe create my own masks to do the job
So you want the selected part in color and the rest in black and white?
Yes, or any other single colour. If it worked the same as when using the selection brushes from the brush collection that would be better.
(seems like you want equivalent of Photoshop quick mask tool; hit q key to see the selection as a red rubylith mask; q again goes back to marching ants). I don't think Painter can do that.
But, after making a selection, you can convert the selection to a mask on the layer and then paint on mask in layer to modify it and see mask as grey scale image/B&W.
Mask and selection are essentially the same and when saved in mask or channels, you can view and modify or re-use. See Painter User Guide for masks and selections and alpha channels.
You can also convert a selection to a shape for viewing/use.
If you simply want to see the selection "filled-in", you could temporarily fill the selection, then undo if it served its purpose or save it on a layer.
DougS.. I've tried various combinations of the layers as you suggest and find it very clunky. Photoshop and other programmes will do it for me as you say but I prefer Painter for other reasons. I shall have another look at what you suggest later. Thank you for your suggestions.
