When I use simple watercolours, if I reduce the pressure of the brush, the colours come out white. This problem does not occur when painting on canvas.
How can I make it so that when I reduce the pressure, the colour doesn't turn white when I paint on a layer, like it did in Painter 9?
Hi G-River,I've been using "New Simple Water" constantly as my #1 brush for years (possibly 2006, definitely since 2011) and in my experience it's always been pressure sensitive, even on the canvas. You can wash over it very lightly with the same brush afterwards and blend it together. If you want it to be in a solid colour you have to apply constant full pressure... you can briefly manipulate the brush tracking in Preferences to make it easier to make your stylus work "heavier".
Apologies, it IS considerably less pressure sensitive on the canvas and blending is quite different. (I almost never paint on the canvas.)
Having said that, I suspect the gel layer was set up specifically for digital watercolours and so behaves as intended. The canvas responds in a more generic manner, but it's a useful "hack" if it's the effect you are wanting instead. I guess you could lift it to a layer later. The other thing you can do is bring up the brush control panel and tick "allow brush calibration". The two controls to play with would be "Pressure Scale" and "Pressure Power". Make sure you save the brush as a variant once you've got it how you want it, or you'll lose it every time you reset the brush.
OH! And just in case, remember that Ctrl+Shf+L dries the digital watercolour, so if you have to go over it lightly afterward it doesn't disturb the paint already laid down.
Thank you very much for the details! I will try to adjust the parameters.I was having a hard time finding anyone close to me who uses simple watercolors, so I had no one to ask questions.
Simple Watercolor in Painter 9 didn't turn white even when I reduced the brush pressure. Also, when blending with other colors, the color would blend too much with the previous color and come out unintended, making it impossible to place the color as desired.
Has this changed from the specifications in Painter 9?I want the blending to be the same as in the old Simple Watercolor.
