The hang is from 10 to 20 seconds. Greatly slows things down. This is disappointing because Painter 2019 was advertised as much faster than P 2018. I am going back to using P 2018 until this is resolved as it is making P 2019 almost unusable. Running on late 2013 Mac Pro, Mojave 10.14.1. Please resolve asap, thanks.
Hmm, not a good experience can you provide everyone a bit more detail so I can try and duplicate what you are seeing?
1. Are you using Painter 2019 Update 1? or Painter 2019 GM?
2. Are you using an imported workspace from 2018 or previous or a 'fresh' workspace?
3. Are these your steps?
a) After Painter 2019 has loaded, go File > Open. The dialog box does not appear for 10-20s
b) Create the new document (what size?). Paint for a while.
c) Go File > Save or File > Save as. The dialog box does not appear for 10-20s
Pleaase add/edit any of these steps...thanks!
Same problem here too.
And I'm using late 2013 Mac Pro, Mojave 10.14.1 too.
I just bought the Painter 2019 last week and until yesterday, I had no problem with using it.
When I click open or save/save as, the dialog box appears right away but everything's frozen for a while (whatever using keyboard / mouse / tablet pen).
Do you think I have to reinstall the program?
Not sure, Saroong...what are the exact steps you are doing that lead to the issue? Please see above...are these the steps you are doing? Does the same issue occur with an entirely blank, default document?
Stephen, I’ve been dealing with this issue for weeks. The issue appears to be associated with Painter writing to the MacOS file system. Actions like launching and saving will temporarily lock up Painter for anywhere from several seconds to several minutes (frustrating, yes).
I used FSmonitor (an app that logs all file system activity) to monitor launch, saving a file, and saving a workspace to capture all file sys activity. I know enough about the underpinnings of the MacOS to be dangerous.
The system event “.nosync” shows up dozens of times during the period between the start of the lock-up event (launch, save) until Painter regains responsiveness. I have no idea if this is causing the hang-up, but its repeated presence makes me wonder if it has something to do with this issue.
Below is a link to a ZIP file with 3 logs I made that show all file sys activity during the hang-ups.
I am running on Mojave 10.14.1. I am using Painter 2019 Update 1. I am using a workspace created in P2019 (the hang-ups happen on a fresh workspace, as well).
I hope that this info will be useful to track down the issue.
Thanks for the information, John! I will forward it.
For everyone having this issue, can you let us know the following....
1. Navigate to OS 10.14 Mojave System Preferences > Security and PrivacyClick on PhotosIs Corel Painter 2019 listed here?
2. What happens if you save into a different folder? For example, if you are currently saving the "Pictures", is performance improved if you save to "Desktop"?
Please note: These are not yet firm leads on a cause or work-around for the issue; however, it may be useful information in understanding the problem and any info is hugely appreciated.
Stephen, based on what you just posted, I unchecked Painter 2019 in all categories listed in Security & Privacy (Contacts, Calendars, Microphone, Photos, Accessibility).
Painter now doesn’t hang and performs as expected.
The problem looks to be associated with system accessibility of Painter. By denying it in all cases, Painter returns to expected performance.
I’ll keep monitoring this.
Thanks John Derry for the hint.
This does seem to be the case.Your solution worked for me.
