I tries to set the toolbox to horisontal row, but what happens is that the left half goes out beyond the screen and it seems impossible to move it back in. Im using a dual setup with the screen to the left.
How to get it back in?, switching to vertical puts it in place again.
Hmm, it would be good to have it perfectly responsive... I recall when I worked on TabletPC (Painter X to 13??) that it used to work okay but we now have those much more flexible floating palettes, looks like they open up a different can of critters!
Just off the top of my head I reckon if you set up two different workspace layouts and save them you'll at least be able to call up a fitting workspace for your screen orientation....
Not really sure how you mean, I've just been using the horizontal orientation and I would like to have the toolbox horizontal also. Wouldn't be on screen all the time but when I do have it on that it would be horisontal. And leftpart of the toolbox now goes out of the monitor area and with it the part that can be used to drag it around.
Good Idea though to have two saved layouts when going between horizontal and vertical, used to switch to vertical at times earlier and the palettes all go haywire when the screen flips orientation mode.
Ah, got you now, the toolbox only, not all the other palettes.
I've had it where my picture is dragged offscreen and I can't get the navigation handle, also had toolboxes placed onto my second screen and not returning to single screen mode layout when the second screen is turned off. There are fixes for both of those, luckily.
What happens if you go in the menu bar to Window>Layout and click default ?
It should place the tool box hard left and all onscreen: the original layout for Painter is a standard Desktop/laptop screen orientation.
Another thing you can try is to lock your toolbar hard left instead of having it floating... you can do this by dragging the toolbar to the hard left of the screen with the handle pushed right up underneath the brush control bar at the top. This anchors it to the top left of the screen no matter the orientation (this was where it always sat before floating palettes came along).
Unfortunately I don't think the toolbar can be converted to another layout. I recall thinking I'd like a couple of other options at one time.
Well, it's not that I can't get the toolbox back, and if I choose a saved layout it works like you say, it reverts to that layout with things in place. Also, if I just go to preferences and choose 'vertical single row' it goes back to aligning itself to left edge of screen and comes back in full onto the screen.
I've been using the horisontal orientation throughout this time, only thing is that when choosing preferences->interface->Toolbox Layout->'Horisontal Single row' there is a problem. It goes horisontal, but disappears out of the screen to the left, as in the image:
Not that it is the most important, a bit frustrating though. There is an option, with variations, to change the appearance of the toolbox that I would like to try out but it doesn't work. Thanks for the suggestions though!
Good golly, I may not have helped, but you taught me something I hadn't noticed.
Those toolbox layouts weren't available when I wanted them half a dozen years ago and I didn't know they were on offer now.The double layer vertical might tickle my own fancy....
