Hi, my blender brushes are painting a colour rather than blending. what am I doing wrong?
In order for me or someone on the boards to help, we would need more information:
1. What is the name of the brush?
2. Are you blending on Canvas or a Layer?
3. Is there paint on either the Canvas or Layer?
4. Prior to having this issue, have you made any changes to the brush settings?
The most likely scenario (for MOST brushes in Painter) is that the brush settings have "too high" a resat value (somewhere between 5%-100%). Resat is the setting that 'pushes the current color into the brush'. The higher the value, the stronger the push. This is likely why you are getting unexpected paint in the brush. So I suggest starting with the resat value of 0% to create a 'pure blender'
In addition, you'll want to ensure you have at least some bleed value greater than 1%...I suggest starting with bleed at 100% (which should blend very strongly) and then reduce the amount from there for more control.
These controls should be available on the property bar for MOST versions of Painter "Pro" (2017, 2018, 2019, 2020, etc.). The property bar is along the top of the screen, next to the brush selector.
There are other things that could cause this issue (i.e. pressure not working, inverted expression settings, etc.) but let's start with the basics and we can go from there.
thanks for your quick replyI am trying to blend with just add water on a gel layerthere is colours I am trying to smooth between.Lowering the resaturation appears to have it working normally again thank you
Another first thing to try is to "reset" the brush, just in case a setting was changed from original intent of the brush. 'Reset' is in that top row of brush stuff or in brush menu.
do you mean restore default variant?
also I think where it is not 00% colour it is picking up the white as well and confusing me
