Hi, I'm pulling my hair out trying to solve this issue and could use all the help I can get.
I have been a longtime user of PainterX3 and wanted to try 2020 before I bought it. I downloaded 2020, installed it as a limited-time trial without a serial number, and the installation seemed to go OK. I didn't get any kind of confirmation when the installation process completed, the screen just closed.
A Painter 2020 icon appeared in my Windows 10 start menu, so I double clicked that. The Win10 blue wheel appeared for 3-5 seconds, and then disappeared. Nothing happened. The application didn't open. No pop-up screen, no error message, nothing. I opened the Windows Task Manager to see if I could see Painter spinning up in memory, but nothing, no processes associated with Painter 2020.
I then began a dizzying array of troubleshooting steps...
I cleared the temp folders and held down the Shift key while starting the application. As before, the Win10 blue wheel spun for 3-5 seconds and then closed. The app didn't open.
I then uninstalled Painter 2020, ran CCleaner to clean my registry, restarted my computer, and reinstalled Painter2020. The installation process ran as before, and I could not open the app using either the normal method or by holding down the Shift key while opening the application.
I then uninstalled Painter 2020 a second time, ran CCleaner to clean my registry, and rebooted my computer. Thinking perhaps I had a bad install file, I deleted the installation executable I had downloaded from Corel's website, downloaded a second installation executable from Corel's website, and attempted to install from the file I downloaded from Corel's website. The installation process ran as before, and I attempted to start the application with the same result as before; nothing happened. Finally, I cleared the Windows Temp Files one last time, and held down the Shift key while starting the application, with the same result as before... the Win10 blue wheel spinning for 3-5 seconds and then closing.
My hardware is an HP Envy laptop with the following specifications, all of which appear to exceed Painter 2020's specifications:
My software is Windows 10 Pro 64-bit with Norton 360 antivirus. Painter 2020 doesn't start regardless of whether antivirus is enabled or disabled, so it's not an antivirus issue.
My Painter X3 continues to work fine, but obviously I'm looking forward to all the new features over the past five years.
Can anyone help me solve this problem?
Besides contacting Corel support, try downloading again- perhaps some corrupted files in initial download. Instead of CCleaner uninstall using a program like the free Revo uninstaller- it will remove everything as CCleaner doesn't.
My experience with Corel Painter support has only gotten worse. I tried re-downloading, but that didn't work.
Painter Support asked for certain log files from my computer. I sent those. Then Support asked me to try creating another admin account on my local machine and attempting to start Painter using the new admin account. That didn't work either. I reported that fact to Support. Three days later they replied stating "We are still waiting to hear from you." So I replied again.
Support then stated that a remote assistance session would be required to diagnose my specific issue. We agreed on a date and time, and Support told me that instructions would be sent the day of our scheduled session. When we reached mid-afternoon on the day of our scheduled session, and I still hadn't received instructions from Support, I contacted them again. They didn't respond.
Our scheduled time came and went and no word from Support. An hour after the scheduled time, I called Support's 1-800 number. The lady who took my call stated she would refer my case to the lead technician, who would call me to begin the remote support session. I still haven't heard anything.
I have begun leaving negative reviews of Corel Painter, describing my disappointing experience with Support and that Corel does not support their products.
I've had similar experiences with Corel Support- bad. Try messaging the Painter team on their Facebook page- I've had better luck with them putting me in touch with someone who could really help-
Thanks for pointing me to the Facebook group! I messaged them this morning. After all I've been through, I'm not hopeful, but maybe I'll be surprised.
While waiting on Support to get back with me under their Facebook page, I tried uninstalling the software using Revo Uninstaller Pro, then re-downloading the install .exe, then reinstalling from a brand new install .exe. Same result. Still no luck.
I wonder if also uninstalling X3 and then trying to install Painter 2020 would solve my problem, but at this point I'm worried that then I would also not be able to run X3.
At this point, I'm basically resigned to never being able to use Painter 2020. So disappointing.
Were you provided a ticket number for this encounter with support by chance? If so, might I be as so bold to request as to what it is?
