I'm using Painter 2020 and installed some new brushes. As I was going through some, I can across the Texture Cover brushes. I notice as I'm going across the canvas, the brush ( any in the category ) seems to hit a hard stop even though there is canvas left. Is there a canvas size limit with these brushes? In the image, the top strokes are an oil bristle brush, can paint across the whole canvas. The bottom is a texture cover brush, hit a wall.
Is this normal?
Yes, this is expected behavior with these brushes (although not necessarily intuitive)....the texture brushes actually use a bitmap image to paint with, which makes them very powerful but there's a workflow involved here...
1. With the texture brush selected, click "Show Texture" (the button is roughly in the middle of the property bar, in the 'Media' section)
2. From here you have 3 options:
a) Import a higher-resolution texture that fills your document
b) Resize the texture to be larger using the "move and size' command (when the dialog pops up after the transform, go ahead and save it for future use)
c) Move the texture when you get to the edge (this is more commonly needed if the texture is very detailed, such as an eye)
Note that you can also rotate, skew, and distort the texture. Texture's support transparency, so you can import your favorite PNGs and paint with them.
Hope this helps...
That makes perfect sense. The way it goes down is like you are painting with a premade image.
That helped a lot.
