I was using the Painter 11's eyedropper when suddenly I noticed when I tried picking up a color it would only show white. When I clicked on a black line it would show black. I was sure to be on the layer that had the color I was trying to select with the eyedropper. What am I doing wrong?
This is a problem for me too. every document I produce picks up white randomly versions 20 and 21 too. This is really peeing me off that's white I asked for a refund and will not be using painter anymore. Been going on for over 9 years - sort yourselves out Corel. You want to see the reputation you have on Trustpilot - Not good!
Since P21 had a bunch of fixes for Apple/Mac, wondering if it is an OS related issue or same problem everywhere? I'm on a PC and have not seen or heard the problem except here. Not denying it exists; just where and how often so Corel has a better idea where to start?
Here is a video of what happens Doug S. Thanks for replying. I'm on a PC. I'm using v19 now and thought it wouldn't happen here but it still does.
Yup, a real problem. Does it happen only when using a Wacom pen or same with mouse or trackpad? Just trying to try to find the source of the problem by process of elimination.
Does it happen more often late in day after PC run a long time? or same problem right after a restart or a cold start after shutdown? (windows operates differently from different start modes) Or even tried a safe start? Looking to find if another PC program or OS use triggers a problem. Occasionally I get a weird instance and a restart of PC fixes it....for any program, not just Painter.
I have spent hours trying to rectify this to no avail. I haven't done a safe start and I keep my computer on all the time. I have tried restarting the pc. I have several programs with a colour picker - It works find in them. I have factory reset the program and repaired the installation. I tried saving as a psd but soon as you change to a rif it happens again.
it happens when you have a mix of watercolor layers and basic raster layers; maybe the watercolor layers alone are enough to break the color picker. also using a digital watercolor brush on a basic layer can sometimes break the color sampling tool.
there's no point in factory resetting painter if this happens, but drying each watercolor layer separately will get color picker to work again in your document's space
(btw I had problems with the "dry watercolor layer" menu command in the past; easier and faster to activate transform tool, agree to the layer rasterization prompt that it gives you, and push "enter" the moment you see the transform tool gizmo to avoid distorting the pixels)
Thank you Ipetcats,
Thanks for your advice, Transforming it did work. I have spent a month of frustration trying to suss this out so much so that I looked for another desktop program. Ideally, this should not be a workaround but I am grateful for your help. I now am enjoying Artrage at a snip of the price - so far so good. I may return to Corel if this problem is sorted properly. Thanks again.
