Strange Grid-Like Artifacts Appear While Painting in Painter 2020

Hi All,

When I am painting brushstrokes, strange grid like artifacts will appear, making the shading cut off against a straight line. The even bigger issue is these artifacts won't go away after I hit Edit>Undo or close the program. I have to keep manually blending them back in the artwork. I'm not sure what I can do to fix this. I took a screenshot to show what I'm talking about. Does anyone have any advice? I really want to like this program, but I just keep having to deal with more and more issues and it's starting to feel not worth it.

  • does it happen with every brush type out there?

    I remember running into something similar (like the document got slashed into squares some of which weren't available for painting in) while trying real watercolor when it debuted after which I never touched this tool.

    most painter brushes should not break your documents; there's a lot of underlying frustration with this program in general though that never practically goes away.

    if you go under window -> brush settings -> "general" palette, and take a note of the brush type that produces corrupted images, it might help you avoid similar issues when painting later (just by avoiding this entire brush type), but I can't really comment on what's going on;

    it's def. not normal.
