Corel Painter 2021 - Thick paint brushes are not working. I also purchased Modo digital painting brushes via Dmitry Marin. The Modo thick paint brushes also not working. I can do a shift reboot of Painter to factory settings. Just trying to see first if folks have an idea.
The Modo impasto and other brushes are working.
Thank you, robb
Hi Robb, are you creating a Thick Paint layer? This layer type is required for these brush types...
Hey Stephen and thank you for responding. I use thick paint layers in Painter 2021. I open Painter 2020 and Thick Paint works. I'm wondering if the Modo specialty brushes somehow interfere? It shouldn't be the case. If I shift/reopen Painter to factory settings, then the Thick paint brushes work. So when I reload the Modo brushes, over a couple days Thick paint brushes no longer work. Dmitry Marin say's it shouldn't be his brushes causes thick paints to not work.
Somewhere I have a glitch. I tried the 'Chat' service with Painter (not too helpful) and all they had for me was - shift key/reopen Painter to Factory settings.
Frustrating for sure as I really like the Modo look and want to practice it. I haven't yet added Impasto or Thick paint touches to the attached image yet..... darn. Please share any ideas or references, really appreciate it. robb
Thanks for the extra details, Robb. Hmm, unfortunately I don't have the Modo brushes to play around with, but based on your description, it appears that:
-if you start Painter 2021 with shift, think paint brushes work
-You install the Modo brushes, and the work initially
-but after some amount of use, they stop working
So you're right, there is probably a glitch or bug that causes them to stop working at some point. They key is finding what that exact step is, because based on what I'm seeing here, this is not a widely known issue.
That said, I have a possible place to look into...maybe this will help.
In Painter 2021, there is new functionality which allows many 'default' and 'impasto' type brushes to paint on Thick Paint layer. In many cases you will see dialog boxes pop up with options on what to do next. My 'gut feel' is that something may be happening at this step, and could maybe help us uncover the problem...maybe one of the settings you are choosing is blocking you, or maybe one of the settings has a bug...I can't be sure until we get more info.
Hope this at least gives you a place to investigate.
Great painting, BTW...this will look even more amazing with thick paint and texture on top!
Hey Stephen, I also downloaded some Skip Allen brushes (Buttery Oils & Bristly tabs) that work just fine in 2020, but not 2021 (same as Modo brush problem). I seem to have some sort of brushes not working problem. I can click on the brushes, they just don't paint. Is it possible to communicate directly via email with you and or a Corel Painter technical code expert (to go back and forth checking solution options)? Maybe they can take over my computer and see a glitch (or my user error). Certainly the Corel Painter chat folks don't know. Otherwise I don't really know and Painter 2021 isn't working for me. It would be annoying the keep shift/restarting Painter 2021 and have to reset it.
thanks so much, robb drake

Stop the presses. It may have only been, wait for it..... unchecking 'preserve transparency'. It's usually dumb butt user error. I just saw another post regarding 'brushes not working'.
What I'm thankful for is... your kind help and responses :-) best, robb
