Hi All, I'm an artist in the conventional realm (watercolours plus other media) looking to up skills and try out concepts in digital realm prior to rendering with paint. Trialed Corel Painter 2022 for a couple of weeks and purchased yesterday. Does anyone know of compatibility issues between CP 2022 and MS Surface Laptop Studio (Intel Core i7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, NVIDIA® GeForce RTX) plus MS Pen 2?Been messing about to familiarise with CP: a) with brush set on colour 1, after switching to colour 2 (as selected and represented on the colour panel ring and main colour), the brush strokes still appear as colour 1. Only fixed by selecting another brush from the tool and then re-selecting the original brush. b) using the magic wand to select a colour region, when going to paint in the selected region, even though a brush is selected, the wand does not become de-selected and prevents painting in the selected region. Only able to fix by restarting the program. c) using the MS Pen 2 (which works excellently elsewhere) appears to show zero response to application of pressure, tilt, etc. There's others, but they were the main ones from today. Cheers!Brian
It does not work with the Surface studio laptop or the surface 7 pro and most likely all others. I purchased painter 2021 which did not work. The 2022 trial did not work. The issue is that pressure and tilt do not work. You get broken lines in RT mode. If you put it in wacom mode you get solid lines with no pressure or tilt response. After numerous tech support conversations with Corel, I was told that they will not fix it. I do not know if 2023 fixes it. Photoshop, works fine. So do many other programs, Art rage, Escape motion’s Rebelle 5 and 5 pro work fine, have pressure and tilt response with the MS surface laptops mentioned above and pen including the pen 2.
Has anyone tried SP8 or SLS with the new Painter 2023?
I just downloaded the 2023 trial version (after having zero joy with 2022), 2023 is still incompatible with Surface Studio Laptop and MS Pen 2. The "new" fluid feature does not respond to pen pressure or tilt. Surprising that Corel continues to shun MS devices.
Just switch to Rebelle 5 Pro. It works fine with the My Surface 7 Pro, Surface Studio and Surface Studio Laptop.
Photoshop, Art Rage, Afiinity Photo all work just fine. Just painter is not working. Furthermore, when I tried 2022 it failed to recognize the GPU. Based on the above conversation I will not try 2023.
Confirmed that Painter 2022 pen pressure (RTS setting or Wacom setting) does not work with Surface Pro 8 + OLD surface pen (Surface Book 2 pen) either. It's not just the new slim pen (which I have not had the chance to try because the SP8 keyboards are back ordered and I can't charge the pen; this is where I'm not thrilled with rechargeable tech). It's not Win11 since I have that on the SB2. It's something about the screen hardware in the recent generations of Surfaces that's not compatible with Painter. Given that the SB2 was released in 2017 it seems like Corel's years behind in supporting Surface. Sad. Except for my own desktop build, Surface machines are by far my preferred devices.
Looks like I'm going to Fresco or Art Rage on this machine.
