Liquid Acrylic Painting Ability

I'd be really neat if Corel Painter had liquid paint aka fluid art abilities, like it has with watercolor.

If you aren't familiar, liquid acrylic painting techniques produce amazing abstract art:

The main techniques are

- pouring paint directly on the canvas, color by color
- pouring colors into a cup without mixing and pouring on the canvas
- swiping with cards, strings, brushes, palette knives, paper, etc.
- heat gun to move paint and to produce cells

The colors interact on the canvas itself, without blending or merging. They create beautiful lines, swirls, lace, and blotches akin to Jupiter clouds or geode colors. Most people do it with acrylic paints.

  • Certainly an interesting idea. I'm guessing that a big part of it is that the colors don't mix quickly as they spread?

  • A good challenge for Corel painter developers to flow mixing paint along with separations from oils with waters or using silicone drops to generate cells. Unlimited ability to create infinite variety. Of course needs wind direction and speed like for water colors and drying....hmm very interesting and would be a treat to play with....so I vote Yes!

  • Hello,

I would like to offer this tutorial as a way to create a poured acrylic look with Painter.  I am using brushes created by Master Brush Maker, David Gell.  He is retired and gave me all his brushes to put on my blog.  You can go there and download them for free.  I hope you enjoy the video and it is something that you can use today.
