Hey guys -
Just tried out painter on my shiny new 2020 Mac Mini - Apple M1 Processor, 16GB RAM
Heres my performance results (below) - which made me feel a little bit sad.
The good news is things seem to work - at least on my initial test.
Some tools behave quite slowly.
IT will be so exciting to see a native ARM / M1 version of Painter - I think with the right effort you can have a real powerhouse on your hands and get into the native iPad OS space as well.
have you tested clip studio already? how does that one compare to the intel CPU experience?
this is just sad, and with corel essentially centering their performance optimization around avx2 for several years it means we probably shouldn't expect much.
painter has been bloated and dragged down by its nonsensical development for so many years, and suddenly apple pulls out a hardware switch that's basically incompatible with whatever corel's performance improvements that actually worked here.
they'll have the optimized intel package going on for several more years after which it will be an interesting transition for mac users.
Clip studio is super fast. They released their universal version ahead of Apple silicon release.
That's good. There was someone posting on r/Wacom that the drivers started going wonky in CSP after the Big Sur update.
I had to fiddle with the security settings and remove and re-add Wacom IO file but then it worked after I added manually. (Cintiq 27QHD Touch)
