My Angry, Nutty Neighbor

This painting was developed from a photo of my backyard neighbor angrily flicking her tail and staring me down because I dared intrude into her space. Not to worry, I'll get back in her good graces with a few peanuts. She has trained me well.

Since squirrels feel safest in trees, photos of these animals are often filled with limbs that litter the background in displeasing ways. Squirrels are vain creatures and prefer that tree branches not appear to be growing out of their ears.

A tracing was made of the photo keeping those elements that were important to the composition and discarding the rest. The tracing was colored, shading applied, and the resulting bitmap brushed in Essentials.
