Hey all -
I am looking for a quick and dirty way to create a "pencil sketch" drawing from a source photo using Painter 2018's auto-painting functionality. I see it's possible (easy even) with Painter Essentials 6 (see Painter Tutorial YouTube vid's by Karen (?) where she does this).
Anyone have a quick tutorial or tips on how to do this?
Under Effects tab, Surface Control at the bottom of options is one for Sketch.
I was looking for the same results as I'm using the trial version of Essentials 7 but own Painter 2019. And Google lead me to this thread. I tried as you suggested and got nothing comparable to the results Essentials 7 pencil sketch. What other options must be set, what brush (yes I tried the clone pencils) and nothing even close to the awesome pencil sketch of Essentials 7.
Skip. Thanks muchly. But it sounds like you already have your plate full. Your priority is your sister. Be with her.
To be honest I have a love/hate relationship with Painter. It takes too much effort to get the same results that are much easier in other competing applications. I'm not really a free hand painter. I am more a Photographer and 3D modeler/renderer who would like to give some of my images a sketch or painted look. I'm leaning more and more towards Photoshop & TopazLabs as they have a much better support mechanism.
Many thanks though, I do appreciate your kind offer but your hands are already full enough. Lots of luck with your computer. I just retired after 30+ years of computer/fileserver support.
To give everyone an idea what I'm trying to do, here is a 3D model of a traditional styled American hot rod I modeled in Hexagon 3D & Silo3D. It was rendered in Vue Complete. The sketch effect was created using Photoshop & Plugin TopazLabs Studio/Impression.
I can achieve an pencil sketch in Essentials 7. Also a charcoal effect as well in Essentials 7. In Corel Painter 2019 I find it almost impossible. Corel should be including these Essentials presets with Corel 2019.
PS: Plugin FilterForge was used to create the cross hashing on the ground.
Using my above 3D Render and Essentials 7 I can get an AI Charcoal and a Pencil render like this. As much as I try, I can get NOTHING even close with Painter 2019.
I am truly bothered that there has not been one single reply in this post by the PainterFactory. And it saddens me as I've been a loyal purchaser of Painter since IX. Again there is so little support for Painter. Now it appears that Corel is no longer offering assistance to their customers.
This was the ONLY time I asked Corel for assistance.
They have abaonded me and so I must contemplate abandoning them.
Kenmo- Painter factory is a user to user self-help forum- Corel has never participated.
Since Corel website support is mostly technical, you could message the Painter team on their Facebook page- they are usually very helpful-
Thanks Ron Y. I was not aware of this. I thought this was an Official Corel Painter forum. You've been most helpful though out this. I just wish Painter had 1/2 of the help resources Photoshop had.
Again take care.
