Again.. the problems is the curser placement on my cintiq screen does not match drawing spot on cintiq screen. I have calibrated in system preferences. It's not that. (cintiq 21ux) If I draw with the mouse/curser on the MAC screen it is fine. When I use my stylus or cursor (guided by the mouse) on my cintiq in ANY other program it is has accurate placement on the cintiq screen. ONLY on the cintiq drawing screen. I called painter they said to reload painter but to first do a uninstall. I did that with no resolve. I have also also loaded the latest cintiq driver. I am running OS X 10.8.3. I LOVE painter and am on a trial version on 12 until I get this resolved.
I am finding that painting along a stroke path with Align to Spline turned on is giving me inconsistent results depending on the brush I use. you will see odd results along this simple path with both brushes that have a scattering airbrush effect. one is liquid ink and the other a standard airbrush. I can start over in a new document, create a new path of same shape and have the same result at the same location (middle of the down sweep for liquid ink airbrush). the standard airbrush is smooth in some parts and "stepped" in other parts. The stepping points remain in the same place even if I go back and forth over the path...they just build up more density at those points but don't even out along the line. very odd to me and something i can't seem to resolve. I could really use this feature if it worked predictably. is this a known problem and is there a workaround?

With the new "rental" software Photoshop CC and a lot of angry customers, now more than ever would be a great time for Corel to do a serious upgrade to Painter to grab new users. So many suggestions have been made in the last couple of years - I hope Corel is listening - this is the time to not drop the ball with Painter 13. Fix and enhance so many things that are sorely needed and overdue:

- fix the copy and paste bug once and for all!

- rebuild the gradient tool from the ground up and make it usable

- finally finish the Perspective tool - give it 2 and 3 point options - allow brushes or the pen tool to snap to points on the perspective grid - make the Perspective tool usable! Right now it's a joke

- add Pressure Expression to Stroke Opacity for the option to have brushes that are very transparent like those in Photoshop (at least for Circular Dab Types)

- add a "liquify" type of tool, etc

- design a tool to provide a quick way of painting a selection

- add the ability to Tranform content on multiple layers at once

Please Corel listen to what Illustrators and painters want and need to make the leap to Painter! This could be the time!

Painter 12.2 is a better program but it seems tha5t Corel is not as interested in who an artist paints but trying to find newer customers thathaven't gotten into digital art as serious artist. I could be wrong but please bare with me.

If Corel were to take painter to a modular approach, where oils, arcylics, and watercolor wer broken out into separate sub programs but still using the same but enhanced engine, resources could be allocated at the need of the artist.

Painter 13 and later could grow like a tree brancing out to the area that each artist wants to work in. It would not be isolated but could share files, palettes.

As I mentioned in the first line, I would like a bullet proof tool and I don't want Corel to lose it's way, thinking that gimicks will increase the customer base.

If this is too much venting and needs to be in a different section, please move. This is a bit of response to the questions , hopes and issues with p12 > p13

I'm trying to create a recording that will ultimately accompany a piece of music. The scripts created, however, contain create_new_water_color_layer steps that weren't in my illustration. I've found that that the steps are created at the start of each stroke after switching to a new brush. If I create a new document and run the script, strokes after the layer is created don't appear, if I start drawing, the first touch of the stylus will create a watercolour layer followed by an error message because I am using chalks. Reset to default variant stops the behaviour with that particular brush. I'm not sure yet if that is a permanent fix or not. I'm about to reset to all default variants.

There is nothing set for Painter or anything else in the Wacom driver would obviously cause this. All software is up to date. I should add, I have been using the Wacom/Painter combination on and off since the early 90s, including ten years supporting the combination in a college. I have created videos from Painter before without any problem. This problem is profoundly frustrating and has stopped me working for now.

Slide Zoom

I would love to have the option to 'slide zoom' with shortcut keys.
Hi All,

Recently, (yesterday), I ordered the Corel 12 upgrade. I have owned every Corel since Corel 10. I purchased the Corel 11 upgrade a few years ago and was running that on my computer until September 2012. But in September 2012 I installed a brand-new hard drive and a fresh copy of Windows 7 64-bit and never reinstalled Corel 11.

So yesterday I filed a support question after my purchase of Corel 12 upgrade. The support code is xxxxxx, and the case number is xxxxxxx, and my upgrade serial number for Corel 12 is xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx-xxxxxxx.

The question was; must I reinstall Corel 10 followed by the Corel 11 upgrade before I can install my Corel 12 upgrade? Because all of my Corel products or registered I was hoping that the system would recognize that I have a registered copy of Corel 11 without me having to install it all over again.

I'm still waiting on the answer from the support department and I would like to get started with the download of the new purchase so I was hoping someone here could answer that for me now.

Thank you, Rich

Maybe you've observed, as I have, that artists (and people in general) not only come in many flavors, they often are talented in many ways, painting, drawing, etching, writing, telling a good story, and one of my favorites is the spontaneously creative funny speaker.

Ken Robinson says schools kill creativity

Read Sir Kenneth's bio to learn more about this man and if you like, see more of his videos.

If all you get is some laughs out of this, it won't be a waste. Sir Kenneth had me laughing delightedly while absorbing his ideas without effort.

One to remember, that I'll guess we all relate to, he challenges us to:

"... cultivate creativity and acknowledge multiple types of intelligence."

Let's begin there, cultivating and acknowleding our multiple types of intelligence even, within ourselves.

It's fascinating how much we're capable of, when freed of needless restrictions.

Relax, laugh, and create!

I've tried playing around with them, and read up on what they are supposed to allow, but I never see any real pratical use for them.

For example, lets say I create a default/normal layer, and use a pen to sketch up some storyboards. I do all my shading and line work on this layer. Then a create another layer and set its composite method to Mult. which is supposed to darken any pixel under the brush by that amount. Since this layer is blank, am I supposed to copy the content over from my default layer? By painting on my Mult. layer, which is above my Default layer, I see No darkening at all.

I really don't see how these are helpfull. If I want to add a layer for lighting, shadow, why not just create another normal layer and paint on it accordinly?

The whole process seems so abract, but I'm sure they can be very usefull, otherwise they wouldn't exsist. I have yet to find a good explanation of their use, and best of all a practical example that makes sense.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

So you think you know the colour wheel?

I dare you.
so ive noticed a couple times now that the layers panel gets a little
confused if i start grouping layer. the other day i was working in
painter in a document with about 3 groups, all with several layers in
them. then i noticed that when i used the undo command a few times or
so, one of the groups created some sort of copy of itself, and the
canvas layer no longer appears.

So i have 2 unaffected groups, and
one group that has cloned/copied itself. deleting either one deletes
both of them (including their content of course), and if i turn off one
of the layers in the affected groups, it's doppleganger (lol), is also
tirned off with it.

What i see:

Layer 1

Layer 2

Layer 2

Layer 3

(and no canvas layer) if i open it in photoshop everything shows up correctly, so not losing anything at least.

just wondering if anybody else has come across this, cuz it happens almost everytime i group layers. thanks.

Education Edition work with Windows 8, plus updates?

Hello, I am looking into purchasing an edition of Corel Painter 12 for my friend who is a student. The software is on sale for $200, but the education edition is much more cheaper at around $100. I am also looking into purchasing a Bamboo Splash if I am able to purchase the education edition since I do not know if my old CTL-460 model is usable for Windows 8.

There are a few problems we have with the bamboo tablet (Primarily not knowing which driver to dowload or the drag-delay that happens.) But that is another issue altogether.

My main question is this. Does the Painter 12 Education edition come with some needed updates for the software and work with windows 8?

I was hoping if there is any guidelines or assistance I could get from this forum. Thank you for reading this post.

Will Painter Master's 10-11 Brushes work in 12?

Painter 10-11 Brushes (from Fay's and Jeremy's older books and CD's) work in 12?

'ERROR 20' Painter 12.2 on Mac OS 10.8.3

There is no excuse or logical explanation from Corel for this <error 20> crap, so here is the short story:

I had this problem intermitently for months, would reboot and be up and running. But yesterday, I was unable to access Painter for the day. Error 20. No work arounds. Dead in the water. Hung out to dry. Insert more abandonment clichés here...

Solution: Back up your settings, brushes you've created and workspaces. Literally drag/copy the folders out of the application folder. I keep a separate folder of my work spaces (.pws files) in several different locations. Go into Application support on both the public Library and hold down the option key and select go in the finder menu to get to the 'hidden' library. Throw out the Corel Application support files in both.

Throw out the application from your application files. I always reboot to make sure the toilet is completely flushed.

Download the trial version, which now seems to include the upgrade bringing you up to Painter 12.2.1.1212, so you don't have to run the patch. When I did this Painter opened without incident and didn't ask for my activation code or serial number. That must be hidden somewhere in the Matrix. You might need to enter the information upon first opening the app.

That's the fix that worked for me. It's been a half day, so we will see how well or long it works, I will keep you 'posted'.

Backstory: I feel compelled to share my experience in dealing with the dreaded error 20, seeing as the last time Corel did so, was in 2011. Check the knowledge boards. I'll call bullsh*t. Apparently it is still very common and (from Corel), a Mac issue. Their explanation page says it is something to do with the network settings, which explains nothing, especially if you are not online. I heard firewall, network access, I think there might have been talk of Mac goblins and there was an ork or two in there.

Because there are no humans who do tech support by phone at Corel, or none that I could speak to, I had to call their sales department and ask them questions. My Corel Support Code didn't work because I am registered as a business. The rep siad that was a recognized glitch, which I appreciate, but one that completely cuts me off from tech support. No word on when that will be fixed. Everyone on the customer service end was pleasant and as helpful as they could be, but I ended up just flushing the system and reinstalling. This was not their suggestion.

Love the app, don't get the counter-intuitive tech process.

Wish me (and you luck)

Duh-rew

New to this forum, Hello.

I might be posting this in the wrong place, sorry if thats the case.

I have been using Painter since v 9 and am now using 12.2.1.1212 on a 3.4 Ghz Intel i7 I -Mac with 32 GB of RAM.

I'm an illustrator and use the software professionally, all was going great until I tried today to acquire an illustror file from with in Painter this is something Ive been doing for months with out a hitch. I save the files as a legacy illustrator 3 file and it works fine. Except to day suddendly I cant acquire the files. I have had to toggle the file type to Text from Postscript EPSF but neither will work? Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
