Color profiles don't appear in Color Proofing Settings

I am using the Painter 11 trial version and none of my color profiles are being seen in the "Simulate Device" dropdown in the "Color Proofing Settings" window under the "Canvas" menu. I was previously using Painter IX.5 and it saw my color profiles fine. Where should my color profiles be placed so Painter 11 can see and use them for color proofing? Painter 11 does have some profiles appearing in the dropdown but I can't figure out where they are on my computer. I have profiles in multiple places but they don't appear to be those that Painter 11 is seeing. I am using a Mac with OS 10.5.6.

    Thanks.

    Hi vleck,

    Using the ColorSync Utility from the Applications> Utilities folder, I discovered that the profiles listed in the Simulate Device dropdown appeared to point to the following folder;

    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Color/Recommended/

    Here is a screenshot.

Thanks David. I thought the same, but when I added color profiles to this folder for the printers I use, they would not appear in the "Simulate Device" dropdown in the "Color Setting" dialog box. These same profiles worked fine for color proofing in Painter IX.5. Have you been able to get Painter 11 to recognize other profiles for color proofing other than the default set?

    Thanks again!

    Hi vieck,

Sorry, to date I have never used Color profiles, and Photoshop is out of my price range too. I guess the previous folder I referred to may have been created when I downloaded a now expired Photoshop demo, so I am literally at the limit of my knowledge on this particular aspect of Painter.

Color Management is mentioned in the Help menu> User Guide, but looking at that briefly, the information on the subject is very minimal. There is however a link at the bottom of the section to feedback whether or not the information supplied by Corel was helpful.

    Hi:

There is a bug associated with the OS X version of Painter 11's Color Management profile handling. Some profiles are not recognized and consequentially not added to the Color Profiles drop-down list in "Color Proofing Settings".

First, you'll need to locate the missing profiles in your system.

You will likely find your profiles by navigating to your System HD>Library>ColorSync>Profiles folder.

In this folder (if you are using Adobe products) you will find a pair of "Profiles" and "Recommended" folder aliases. Look inside them for your profiles.

In order to add the existing printer profiles, you'll need to select the Painter 11 application and either right-click (with a 2 button mouse) or hold down the Control key and click on the application. This will display a contextual menu.

Select "Open Package Contents" from the menu.

This action will open a new window and display a folder titled, "Contents".

Open the Contents folder and locate the "Resources" folder.

Open the Resources folder and scroll down to locate the "Color Profiles" folder. Open this folder.

Copy any desired printer profiles to this folder.

Close the windows and relaunch Painter 11. Your profiles will now appear in the "Color Proofing Settings" drop down menu.

No issue running under Tiger and Painter 11.

Mr. John Derry! :)  I recent was re-reading your helpful tutorial on previous Color Management in Painter. Apparently we will have to learn it again... hopefully for better.

Hope all is well at home. My best wishes!

Just one quick addendum to this...

Actually the "Color Profiles" folder is located in "Resources" under "Contents" in the Corel Painter 11 Package.  Hope this helps.

Also anyone tell me what the differance in the SRGB Profiles are.  Ive had SRGB on my computer and have used it before.  Now Painter 11 ships with 2 new ones.

    sRGB IEC61966-2-1 noBPC

    sRGB IEC61966-2-1 withBPC

Whats the differance between the two as well as previous SRGB Files one would have installed?
